I brought this up in an earlier post but here I'm going to go a bit further.

Why did Oprah receive the Cecil B DeMille Award in January 2018?

Apart from their need to identify the right cult of personality to rival Trump, Hollywood's celebrity elite class needed the most evangelical among them to deliver a sermon before a congregation dressed in mourning black. This process was required to absolve them of any guilt after the revelations of 2017 and thus restore the moral high ground for celebrities. You could see the catharsis wash over them. From there they could reinforce the 'us vs them' paradigm instead of encouraging open discussion about the political system as a whole, and thereby strengthen the deluded neo-liberal, neo-imperial sociopath-society.

The flourishing dystopian landscape is now shaped by ‘our media personality versus their media personality’ and most importantly 'our vapid soundbite versus their vapid soundbite.' Oprah might use ‘A new day on the horizon’ like Trump used ‘Make America Great Again’ or Obama used ‘Hope and Change’... all of it absolute nonsense, the progressives now are no less demagogic than those they accused of being demagogues. The new leader of the hyper-liberal elite has years of experience in peddling all manner of pseudoscience and magical thinking to her audiences, if you think about it given how far our society is drifting from truth—Oprah is the perfect 'leader of the free world' to come along after Trump.
