1951 The first beauty contest "Miss World" was held in London

The first beauty contest "Miss World" - the official international beauty contest on the planet - was held in London on April 15, 1951. Thanks to this event, London received the glory of the capital of world beauty. By the way, the first contest "Miss Universe" was also held in London.
"The inventor" of "Miss World" was the London advertising agent of the firm "Mecca" Eric Morley, who was asked to come up with something original to advertise the ballroom during the British festival. He proposed to organize a world beauty contest, which would be held under the auspices of the festival.
For the title of "Miss World" in the first competition claimed 30 girls. They appeared on stage in the bikini swimsuits, which were not yet known in England, than they made a furor. The winner of this competition was Swedish Kiki Haakonson, who received a prize of $ 1000 and the opportunity to appear on the tabloid press.
Morley himself and his wife Julia immediately registered a competition firm, and since then, world beauty contests have been held annually in London. Only since the beginning of the 1990s, the locations of the "Miss World" change almost annually.
In the USSR, the first beauty contest was held only in 1988. The organization of the show "Miss Moscow-88" was engaged in the Komsomol, sponsored by the concern "Burda", whose magazines were only just beginning to enter the Russian market. Tens of thousands of Muscovites took part in the qualifying round. And the victory went to 16-year-old Masha Kalinina.
And the very first beauty contest took place on September 19, 1888 in the Belgian city of Spa. Then 21 girls from 350 candidates reached the final, where exclusively the men's jury "examined" them behind closed doors.
By the way, in 2004 the first in the history international competition "Miss plastic surgery" was held.
