The beach at Cayton Bay, North Yorkshire coast.
The Alienbutt family went for a few days camping last week at Cayton Bay near to Scarborough on the North yorkshire coast. This is the clan sat in our tent.
The weather was pretty kind and we didn't get any rain so it was a nice break away and an opportunity to forget the problems we've had this year. A short walk from the campsite was the secluded beach of Cayton Bay, the walk down to the bay is quite steep and getting their early we had the beach to ourselves.
Over to the left is Scarborough and you can make out the old castle on the cliff top above the harbour.
While Scarborough beach is always busy with holiday makers, Cayton Bay beach was empty.
We spent a few hours walking in the sea and exploring the rock pools, there are also may fossils to be found in this area but we came up with a blank on our fossil hunt.
The cliffs around the bay are made of mud and unstable and the winter storms can cause the cliffs to come down. Below, in the bottom left corner you can see what I think is part of the old Second World War coastal defence buildings that has slipped down to the beach from the top of the cliff where the rest of the building still perches.
This quiet little bay has to be one of the nicest beaches I've been to on the Yorkshire Coast and while the walk down to it and back up is steep it's worth a visit.
How nice are the deserted beaches
You were lucky to have the beach to yourselves!
This looks like an absolutely beautiful bay to camp at. The beach is just the way I like it, secluded and no people! A really nice getaway for the family.
