Today marks five years since the emergence of HODL term, which was first used by BitcoinTalk forum user nicknamed GameKyuubi who meant to say that he keeps on believing in crypto despite the lack of professionalism in trading and BTC price decline, and therefore “hodls” and waits for the price to rise again instead of “burning” his coins through inept exchange gambling.

It is considered that the word “HODL” was first used in a BitcoinTalk blog post on December 18, 2018, by the user nicknamed GameKyuubi. By now, his post has more than 790 000 views.

The word “HODL” itself is present only in the headline to the post. Most probably, it was just a misprint. In his blog post, GameKyuubi addresses the holders of crypto assets who are not professional traders but try to seize moments to get profit. He advises them against playing this games, as the professional players will always be the winners. His misprinted call “HODL” was much enjoyed by millions of cryptocurrency advocates and became the idiom of the crypto community.
