A resident of the Czech Republic found 700 coins dating back to the 10th century

The treasure was found in the Czech Republic by an ordinary passerby. Medieval coins were transferred to the East-Bohemian Museum, whose employees told about a valuable find only a year later. The total number of treasures that have been transferred to the museum institution is over 400 coins, which are fairly well preserved, and more than 300 fragments, including fragments from the vessel where the coins were hidden.

About the found coins in more detail told the staff of the museum. These are Czech dinars of silver, which were circulated throughout Europe. One coin has a weight of approximately 0.5 g. As a payment tool, the money was found in Novgorod and Kievan Rus, which led to close trade with the Czech state. Museum staff note that medieval coins - a real "treasure of the century", and all because never have been found such treasures that would have been so well preserved.

The found denarii on the mints of the Czech principality were issued, and at the time of its formation. For the first time such coins appeared in the Czech Republic around 955 in the era of Prince Boleslaw I. At the beginning of the eleventh century, due to the country's crises (economic and political), the weight and turnover of such coins declined. Release them stopped in the XIII century, when in the city of Kutná Hora many silver mines were found. After monetary reform, thin coins replaced the more valuable Prague pennies.

According to local laws, the treasure belongs to the region where it was found. Therefore, medieval coins will become the property and permanent exposition of the museum in Pradubica.
