Although I do not respect some things they have done in the past, they may be much more successful and thus should be considered. Left-coast mentality has traditionally been much less "encumbered" by East Coast moribund financial constructs that limit the "out of box" thinking in my view.
Thus the historical lesson and metaphorically; Microsoft was a horrible example of high tech community building in so many ways, but it was a great investment (at one time), and incredibly successful.
