What is bargaining in business?

Bargaining is the type of negotiation that normally occurs in business between the buyer and the seller. If the buyers and sellers agree on the price they negotiate, then a transaction will occur. Bargaining is very common in today's world, where sellers try to create a good relationship with buyers in the hope of achieving their goals. It is good to have bargaining in business because one party can take advantage of the other when it comes to business.

There are different things we can bargain on, such as houses, cars, and so on. Once the buyers and sellers understand each other, there will be a high chance of obtaining success when the sellers agree to the price you ask for.

Are you a good bargainer? What tactics do normal use?

Yes, I am good at bargaining because I don't like the sellers to take advantage of what they sell to exploit me. Whenever I go to the market, I make sure I move from one shop to another so that the seller who agrees to my negotiations is the one I will buy from.

Another method I also use when it comes to bargaining is to tell the sellers that if they agree to the amount I want to pay, I will bring other customers to them if they do well, because there are many people around me who will like these products.

I like to bargain in business because it allows customers to continue to patronize what the sellers are selling within their community.

Are you of the opinion that all goods should be under bargain or under a fixed price? Explain.

All goods should be subject to bargaining and not fixed prices. Although in Nigeria we have fixed prices on certain goods, this is mostly common in large supermarkets where bargaining or negotiations are not allowed. Bargaining is necessary, especially for low-income earners, so that they can easily use the products with their families.

Bargaining is always relevant in both developing and underdeveloped countries like Nigeria, as well as in other African countries. Bargaining must be adopted for all goods and services because not everyone has the same financial capability. Furthermore, we cannot compare ourselves to developed countries; they have abundant resources, and for some of them, bargaining is a waste of time.

Have you fallen victim of buying things higher due to not knowing how to bargain

Yes, it mostly occurs to me, especially when I need something badly or in a situation where someone is waiting for me, so I don't want to waste their time by making them wait. Therefore, I will just purchase the goods and leave the seller's shop without bargaining.

I remember last year around February 2024 when I bought a Type-C cord that I wanted to use to charge my phone at the rate of 1,400 Naira, which is equivalent to 6.7 Steem, because the one I was using was spoiled. Later, I found out that the cord was just 1,000 Naira, and I felt the pain, but I carried on with my life.

I would like to invite @josepha, @eveetim and @dasudi to participate in this contest.
