Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #46
Mechanical agriculture is a farming system, which uses the control of different types of machinery to facilitate the production of food, from the soil preparation and plantation to crop maintenance up to harvesting. Crops in the ground and harvested with general-used agricultural machinery are tractors, plows, planters, combine harvester, and water pumps. Mechanization implies the use of machines to help carry out tasks that were previously done by human or animal power.
The Importance of Mechanized Farming
Modern agriculture development have been increasingly dependent on mechanized farming. Food demand is rising, with the increasing population. The use of human labour alone practiced in the past will no more satisfy these needs. In this regard, agricultural mechanization is a solution to intensify land productivity in less time.
Also mechanical assistance, it can reduce fatigue for farmers and accelerate the work, and give them the opportunity to cultivate more hectares. Additionally, mechanized agriculture complements the introduction of modern agricultural practices, including automated irrigation, cleaner postharvest handling, and more effective pesticides.
Advantages of Mechanized Farming
Mechanized farming offers many advantages. Firstly, it takes less time and energy. With the aid of machines, a job that might otherwise have taken days can be done in hours. Second, productivity increases. If farmers can till more land quickly and efficiently, they can grow more. The second value is yields are superior with more organised and accurate process. Fourth, farm mechanization creates new jobs for agricultural equipment rental services, machine repairing and spare parts management.
Disadvantages of Mechanized Farming
But mechanized agriculture has its drawbacks too. The cost at the start is expensive for several reasons. Cost- it is so expensive that not all farmers can afford farm tools and equipment. Secondly, using of fuel and electrical leads to a higher operational cost, particularly with soaring costs of energy. Third, inappropriate utilization of machines can have negative impacts on soil structure, texture, fertility, and in some extent of the environment. Fourthly, mechanization influences the socioeconomic implications of rural communities by decreasing the employment of farm workers.

Here you have a nice write up , actually true that mechanized farming changed our organical farming concepts and indeed accelerate farming work and reduce associated fatigue and stress from farmer's. Thank you for sharing.
