Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #26

in Steem-Agrolast year

Agriculture is a field that is generalized by one term but it is so diverse that it requires clarification although some people when asked what kind of activity they are engaged in can answer that they are farmers without any clarification.

This does not provide precise information for example is it about gardening or about livestock farming poultry farming and vegetable gardening or maybe beekeeping?

No, today I will risk talking about a sub-sector of agriculture that has taken its place on this list and it is called - fish farming.

I prefer to listen to experienced fish farmers rather than talk about this topic myself but I have some experience in this matter and I know something about it and I can do something.

To begin with, I would like to note that fish farming is divided into many ways of doing this business, because it can be commercial open-air fish farming in a lake or intensive fish farming in pools, indoors, for example sturgeon and salmon are often grown, and there is decorative fish farming, fish farming which is done by aquarists in aquariums and ponds where koi carp are bred expensive fish and mistakes in this business can be very expensive.

Some people consider fish farming to be a very simple matter, and someone thinks that it is extremely difficult I think that they are both wrong with great desire with systematic work, with due knowledge means and the blessing of God everything will work out but mistakes cannot be avoided too many things should be foreseen and for example a person cannot influence the weather.

In each business there are some canons following which you can reduce the percentage of errors but often people do what they want to do and not what needs to be done.

For example, they choose the wrong direction in fish farming which is not typical for the climatic conditions of their region they stock the pond incorrectly or they simply think that the fish will solve all their problems themselves and there is no need to worry about them.

Using the example of fish that people generally call goldfish I will explain one of the canons: the larger the pond the easier it is to keep it the chances of killing a fish in a spherical aquarium with a volume of ten liters are much higher than in an aquarium of a hundred liters.

The same with keeping fish in a lake.

The larger the surface of the water the deeper the pond, the better the fish will feel.

Fish breathe eat and excrete waste products that increase the level of nitrates and hydrogen sulfide in the pond which causes significant harm to our fish.

It is good if there is a constant inflow of fresh water into the pond and an outlet from it aquarists call this a channel for changing water or they drain part of the water weekly and fill it with fresh water.

The larger the surface of the pond the more dissolved oxygen in it which is necessary for fish breathing.

Aeration is something that fish farmers will have to deal with even in lakes on hot days and during frosts.

On hot days the pond can bloom and the fish risk suffocating since at such moments the concentration of oxygen at elevated temperatures drops sharply as well as under ice when the pond is deprived of air flow.

In fact fish farming is not much different from any other livestock farming but there are significant differences that can become a stumbling block for doing this business.

In some ways fish farming is similar to cattle farming in Cuba lol when you can own a cow you can milk it but you cannot slaughter the cow at your own discretion this is the prerogative of the state.

So, fishing will be regulated by the fishery inspectorate and if you decide to catch more fish in your commercial reservoir than is allowed you will be fined a strange business.

Also you will not be able to forbid residents of neighboring villages to fish in your reservoir it is both yours and not yours.

If a novice fish farmer who realized his dream and became the owner of a lake taken on a long-term lease did not know this then this may upset him yes there are ups and downs.

But if you really love fishing and are ready to overcome all difficulties this is your business!

Some fish that aquarists keep and consider exotic are considered ordinary fishing trout in the Amazon which can be caught with a fishing rod.

Regardless of the type of fish that you decide to breed, you will need to create optimal living conditions for it which is called a natural biotope where everything is in balance in biological balance.
