BREAKING NEWS

@aggroed and @yabapmatt are seeking legal counsel to sue the HIVE High Council for illegally copying the SteemMonsters... wait?... what's that?... oh,okay... uh, this Justin, oops, I mean just in... it appears that @aggroed and @yabapmatt will NOT be suing the HIVE High Council, well, because they are ON the HIVE High Council!

Years ago, while I was a young man living in the States, I was a huge fan of basketball collectibles. I remember when Shaquille O'Neal was the number one draft pick; I ran to the local shop to get packs and packs of basketball cards in the hopes of finding that limited edition, gold foil rookie card. Never did find it! Who knows, maybe it's now worth a $1,000? Wow, what if someone could make an identical copy of it?! Even if that copy belonged to the same owner, I could insist on buying it for $500, being that he now has two of them! If only that Shaquille O'Neal gold foil rookie card was a Steem Digital Collectible!

The idea of limited edition digital collectibles has its foundation in the very fact that your collectible is original, and cannot be copied or duplicated because of its unique digital signature on the blockchain.

Whether you want to open you eyes or not, ALL of your SteemMonsters and NextColony digital collectibles have been copied onto another blockchain WITHOUT your consent. Whatever fancy rare or legendary card or planet you have in your collection, well, cut the price in half, because you now have another EXACT copy of it.

And to all you Settlers and Raiders who have explored the NextColony Universe for the past year hunting down those Legendary Planets... with no success; well, with a click here, and a click there, the HIVE High Council has just magically popped several more into existence. Hey, maybe @xx0xx can figure out how to sell his three brand spanking new, freshly minted Legendary Planets on the HIVE blockchain, and get some of his 30,000 STEEM back. Oh, I forgot to divide that in half... sorry... that would be 15,000 STEEM... that is, of course, if the HIVE High Council doesn't freeze his account!

Sort:

I read that they'll shut down the NextColony.

I also read that they are going to shut down, but they might release the open source code so that someone else can set up a backend server, and the game could continue. I like my digital collectibles; I have never sold nor burned any of my planets. And I'm not happy with the fact that my digital collectibles are copied onto another blockchain.

Correct.

Totally kill it or moving somewhere?

There are currently no concrete plans to migrate to Hive (nor any other blockchain).

So, what's gonna happen with money people invested in the game?

Invest is a totally misleading term in this case.

Please don't forget, this is a game.

We haven't made much money here, but invested a tremendous amount of time over 1.5 years. Everyone knows that.

Furthermore:

In the last four seasons, the fabulous sum of 27,200 STEEM has been given out to the settlers and raiders. In the final season, another 42,800 STEEM will be distributed - a total of 70,000 STEEM. This is quite an impressive number, of which we are very proud.

And:

The whole project will be open source after the final season. So everyone is free to use the code for a new project or to continue NextColony on the Steem blockchain.

This is an excellent demonstration of how the Fiat Dollar became what it is today, and what it will no longer be in the future.....only, there are gazillion Dollar non-blockchains......at least Hive has a record lol.......
Good points though. I didn't realize that SM/NC were on hive yet though?

The problem with the Steem system has always been that it mirrors the corporate capitalist financial system that is already in place. I have never understood how anarcho-capitalists managed to design a system that basically it a virtual version of how our failed societies are structured. It's crazy! We debate over Austrian vs Keynesian economics in order to build a social network?! Steemit failed because it focused too much on the financial aspects, instead of the social and psychological aspects. Maybe now, that the main focus is no longer Return-On-Investment, we can actually concentrate our efforts on building a better social model, and then let the financial part evolve out of that. What do you think?

Oh I agree for sure. I just wanted to reference how the Fed in the USA just decided to pump another 6 trillion in fiat into the already obliterated dollar.
All those folks 'saving' their 'Dollars'. "Hey I saved $1000". Fed prints, devalues dollars by 25%...
And so on, over and over.

Yes though I agree about Steem. The financial incentives are far unbalanced.

The dollar is dead, and those in the know are aware of this. This means that we are moving ever closer to a shift from paper money to digital; which is why Steem needs to get its priorities right to protect funds. As far as financial incentives, this is hard to balance when you have one side focused on ROI, and the other side focused on bringing in more users.

Yes and those in the know, know that the war going on behind the scenes at the top has caused a disruption to what was an already done deal. The Digital Dollar. Something stopped it.....or rather, postponed it.

"Despite what we were told was a done deal, three Republican Senators have demanded an immediate fix to a drafting error in the relief-bill which may delay its passage."

The American People Reject Digital Currency

Kind of a misleading 'headline' there I know.....The "American People" did no such thing. The "American People" don't even grasp what a "digital dollar" even is. Well, a few of us do...

The dollar was dead over a century ago..

When the COVID-19 crisis passes, they will push the idea that paper cash can transmit viruses, and hence digital is necessary. As you rightly pointed out, it is only a postponement. I personally have very little paper cash (not by choice), and my family and I are deep within the Matrix living off of digital currency.
