Cricket is not just a sport in India, its a religion. It has given the birth to some of the most promising talented players the world has seen. Some got the reputation which they deserved but unfortunately some went unnoticed and their performances underrated.

Thanks for bringing this contest up and my entry will talk about the India Opener batsman Gautam Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir is an international cricketer who played domestic cricket in Delhi and made his international debut for team India in 2003 against Pakistan. Gautam Gambhir has played in all three formats of international cricket and has been one of the most promising opener for India. He was picked by Delhi Daredevils in the first edition of IPL but later picked by KKR where he played for most of his IPL career as a caption.

Gautam Gambhir played all three formats and his contribution to Indian cricket is significantly huge. He has been the big stage performer and helped India win crucial matches in both 2007 and 2011 world cup. A knock of 97 against Sri Lanka in 2011 final along with 75 against Pakistan in 2007 T-20 World Cup final are his one of the best knocks.

Looking at the stats and his crucial knocks under pressure makes him one of the best Indian opener but unfortunately he didn't get the appreciation he deserved. His finals knock against Sri Lanka in 2011 World Cup was over shadowed by 91 run innings by MS Dhoni. Soon after the World Cup he was dropped for his poor performance and the comeback kept becoming tuff ultimately retiring from cricked in 2018. I think that the kind of talent he had needed much more attention from the selectors board and thats why i have choose him as the most underrated international cricketer.

I would like to thank @damithudaya for organising this event.

Yeha!! You are right. I still can remember the way he took the world cup from sri lanka, in 2011. He should have at least given a farewell match by the BBCI. Thank you for your participation

Yes farewell match is something we don't see much in India. Just comparing the farewell of our legends to that of Aussie legends.

Thank you for sharing, very nicely written @siddharthruhil, please keep posting such content.
