IND vs ENG: Captain Root's blow; Equal to Virat's record

In the first Test against India, England captain Joe Root showed his talent once again. Batting vigorously, he hit a half-century in the second session of the second day. With the help of veteran bowlers Jaspreet Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran, he continued his successful run. He also scored on the spin of new bowlers Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar. Joe Root's half-century matched the record set by Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Joe Root hit a half-century in the Chennai Test. This was his tenth and a half century in Test cricket. Virat Kohli holds the record of 10 and a half centuries in Test cricket. He equaled that record. Retired England captain Alastair Cook tops the list with 11 half-centuries.

Root set another record by beating the Indian bowlers. This was his third consecutive half-century in the Test against India. He became the seventh batsman to do so. Tom Latham (2018-19), Kumar Sangakkara (four and a half centuries in a row - 2007), Mudassar Nazar and Zaheer Abbas (1982-83), Don Bradman (1936-37) and Wally Hammond (1928-29). The feat was done.
