The West Indies won the first match of a three-match T20I series between the West Indies and Sri Lanka. With 41 balls and four wickets in hand, the West Indies won the toss and elected to bat. Kieron Pollard from the Windies matched the captaincy. Pollard hit six sixes in Akila Dhananjay's one over. With this feat, Pollard has equaled the record of Yuvraj Singh and Herschelle Gibbs. Both Yuvraj and Gibbs hit six sixes in a single over. Yuvraj set the record in T20 and Gibbs in ODIs.

Pollard set a new record in the fifth over as the West Indies started batting. Pollard hit 38 off 11 balls. It consisted of six overs off six balls. What’s special is that Pollard hit these six sixes straight instead of hitting different directions on the field. Pollard has matched Yuvraj Singh's T20I record. After 14 years, any player has succeeded in setting this record.

He was awarded the Man of the Match award for Pollard's performance. Four West Indies batsmen were back in the tent when Pollard stepped down to bat. After Lendl Simmons (26) and Evin Lewis (28) got off to a good start, Chris Gayle and Nicholas returned to the tent without hitting a full pumpkin. Pollard then led the West Indies to victory, winning the first match of a three-match series.

Pollard hit six sixes off six balls to become the third player in the history of cricket to do so. Earlier, Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in a single over off England bowler Stuart Broad in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20. Before Yuvraj, South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs made his ODI debut in the same year, 2007. Gibbs hit six sixes in a single over off Dan Van Bunge in the match against the Netherlands. Pollard became the first West Indian to hit six sixes off six balls.

In the match against West Indies, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 131 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The target for the victory against the West Indies was 132 runs. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 134 runs for the loss of six wickets in 13.1 overs. The next match of the series will be played on March 6.
