Test Cricket at its best! - Remarkable Victory for India

in Cric-World 🏏3 years ago (edited)

That's just a brilliant performance from team India. Is there any great way to end a thrilling, exciting test series? One of the best test series of all time from the start. Determination, guts, commitments, cold wars. Finally, fighting for the glory of the nation. That was simply top-notch.

India was able to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy winning the series 2-1.

Tough Journey after getting rattled up for 36 runs

  • At the start of the series, India lost their specialist fast bowlers Ishant Sharma and Buvaneshwar Kumar due to injuries. The legends predicted most probably Australia would whitewash India in their home soil.

  • In the first match, they got out for just 36 runs in Adelaide. The lowest test innings total. Hilarious trolls were all around the world. Ironically, Virat Kohli, their main gun, the captain had to return home for family reasons. Shammi got injured.

  • But they came back strongly under the young captaincy of Rahane to win the second match.

  • The third match was an epic show of test cricket. India had a target of 407 runs in the fourth innings in the last four sessions. When Pujara and Pant were in the middle, it was possible for a win. But after their wickets, Ashwin and Vihari batted for 42.4 overs on the last day for a draw.

  • They came to the fourth match with a bunch of inexperienced players. Jadeja, Ashwin, Vihari, Bumrah were injured. In the pacer-friendly pitch in Gabba India played with Siraj, Saini, Sundar, and Thakur. Just less than 15 wickets overall. But they fought well. In the fourth innings, they had a target of 329 runs. They just had to draw the match to retain the trophy and honors. But they came up with a different plan. Pujara holds the wicket at one side and Gill and Pant attacked the bowlers. Finally, they won the match with 3 overs to spare. History created in Gabba. It was the first time Australia lost a match in the venue after 1988.

New wall for India - Pujara

We still talked about Rahul Dravid in Test Cricket. The way he builds his innings. In the past few years, we showed that nature from this guy, Pujara. Even though he was trolled for his slow strike rates, now can see the value of his effort. Throughout the series, he was there as a rock. Great techniques, great batsman.

All-round performance from the experienced players

Rahane showed great passion as the captain. Cool and calm. In his five matches as the captain has won 4 and one was drawn. Now India has an option when Kholi is not around.

As always there was an all-around performance from Jadeja. And Ashwin also joined the list. He bowls well. But he showed that he is a proper batsman too. And Pant. This guy is from the next level. He has a unique talent, especially in the fourth innings under pressure. He might be the one to fill the spot of the wicket-keeper batsman for India after Dhoni. A long way to go.

A Bunch of new finds

Wahinton Sundar, Natarajan, Thakur, Siraj, Gill

The series was the debut for a lot of youngsters. They all played well in IPL. Straight away BCCI called them for the squad. And they showed their potential. Siraj, Nattu, Thakur, Saini in the pace attack. Gill played well in his first series as the opener. Sundar is a great spinning all-rounder. So, India now has plenty of options with them for every spot. It's so amazing how they managed the kids, raised them, looked after them.

What to learn from their effort?

There is so much to learn from this effort for all the other nations, especially for Sri Lanka. Mentality drops after the first match, skipper left, players got injured, verbal fights, abuse from the crowds, young captain, the best Australian team with Warner and Smith back, against deadly fast bowling trio Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood in pacer-friendly pitches. Yet they managed to win. They played with injuries, team effort, never relaxed in the dressing room. But finally, they won. What are the excuses for other nations. A lot to learn from them.

I guess, without any doubt, they deserved the ICC test championship. Any ideas about this effort?

Thank You!
Best Regards!
