Is Dhoni the most strategic or luckiest player in the world of cricket?

in Cric-World 🏏2 years ago (edited)

Many have been or are the best strategic captains, but how many have been able to become lucky captains like Dhoni? The combination of strategy and luck may not have been seen by the cricketing world until Dhoni came. During the tenure of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, the Australian team did not have to rely on luck at all. They were some kind of bulldozer. Whoever came in front of them would be twisted and rolled. The cricket world has never seen such a formidable team in the three departments of batting-bowling-fielding. A good spell, a few good overs, or a good batter session is enough for them. They could have won the lost match. So, let's ignore them and focus on the rest.

If we compare Dhoni's lucky term with that of AB de Villiers, Ken Williamson, and Virat Kohli, among the recent strategic captains, it can be seen that De Villiers lost the 2015 World Cup semi-final match to fate, and what more can I say about poor Williamson! Despite performing so well in the 2019 World Cup and last year's T20 World Cup, he had to taste defeat in the end. One of the unfortunate cricketers. An epic can be written about the tragedy of Virat Kohli. Even with the best team, there is no telling how many times they have been eliminated from the knock-out stage. The goddess of cricket turned her face away from him.

Now let's put this in the context of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, alias Thala. Dhoni face a huge test in the first match of the captaincy. Possibility of a World Cup-winning performance against archrival Pakistan. The result was a strange tiebreaker called "Bowl Out." The Indian cricketers did not make any mistakes there. Dhoni survived that journey. But coincidentally, Pakistan and India faced each other again in the final of the same tournament (2007 T20 World Cup). If the risk that Dhoni took this time had not been fruitful, his career might have been ruined. In order to make the result of the match, he handed over the ball to Joginder Sharma to bowl the final over, an unknown bowler from his team, without giving the ball to the well-known bowlers from his team. Misbah-ul-Haq, the batsman who is fully set at the crease! What a surprise! This time too, Dhoni was successful. In cricket, it is very normal to hit a bowler. Joginder Sharma could have beaten the last over. But that's luck! Welcome to Dhoni.

Thirty-two years later, Dhoni arrived in the cricketing paradise of the World Cup.
Final of the 2011 World Cup, he also demonstrated great skill there. Yuvraj Singh's inhuman performance throughout the tournament. India became world champions because of Dhoni. Ken-Williamson also showed such skill in the final. But luck didn't favour him. He pulled the team from the backfoot on stage like a finalist. In the middle, Dhoni won the entire IPL title, the Champions League.

How many people have such an opportunity? After winning these two tournaments, when the Indian cricket team has performed poorly, there has been an uproar to remove Dhoni and save cricket! But he announced in a live press conference that he would not leave the captaincy until he had won all the ICC trophies. Whether it was Dhoni's influence or his gratitude for bringing two World Cups, the BCCI did not move Dhoni anymore.

The final of the 2013 Champions Trophy. So far, this is a trophy that is elusive to Dhoni. India reached the final as usual with Shekhar Dhawan's superhuman performance. The host country is England. At one stage in the 20 overs match of the D / L method, it seemed that England would win the match very easily. But Dhoni's magic (no-luck) was still there. Ishant Sharma, the team's most economical bowler, was brought in in the 17th over. In that over, Ishant Sharma turned the match around with two wickets. One can only imagine how fortunate their fate would be! He brought Ravichandran Ashwin in the last over. The last ball needed six runs. The last ball was bowled by Ashwin. Dhoni became the only captain in the world to be the champion of three ICC events. One of the three finals could have been missed. But when the man is Dhoni, then fate will be in his favor. That is why it can be said that Dhoni is the most strategic and luckiest player in the world of cricket.

His ability of game reading or player reading or situation reading is more than anyone else. And he could do it very quickly. He was also very confident in the mind game.
