Today I present my first assignment from the English course promoted in this great community. I am always ready to acquire new knowledge and I do not want to miss this opportunity to improve my skills in this very important language.

Explain the definition of Word on your own understanding.

It can be said that the word is a sound or a sequence of sounds, which are articulated and represented with letters, which are generally linked to a meaning, and which has a certain grammatical category.

It can also be considered as a word, the graphic representation, by means of letters or signs, of said sounds.

List the kinds of words and give 5 examples each.

To perform the grammatical analysis of sentences, it is necessary to group the words into different types or classes:

  • Substantive; which are also called as names, and are those words that are used to name people, animals, plants, things, feelings or qualities; for example: Diego, teacher, bird, book, Paris, etc.

  • Pronouns; they are those words that they use to replace the name to avoid its repetition; for example: I, you, he, she, you, we, them, etc.

  • Verbs; they are the words that denote action, existence, condition or state of the subject; for example: talking, writing, eating, walking, reading, running, etc.

  • Adjectives; they are the words that accompany the name or noun and express its qualities; for example: big, sweet, sad, new, fast, etc.

  • Adverbs; are those words that modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb; for example: here, last night, a lot, yesterday, before, etc.

  • Prepositions; they are the words that have the function of relating words or groups of words. The prepositions are: A, before, under, fits, with, against, from, from, in, between, towards, to, for, by, according to, without, so, on, after, through and during.

  • Conjunctions; they are words that join other words or propositions (simple sentences) that perform the same grammatical function; for example: more, but, but, because, although, since, etc.

  • Interjections; are those words that are not part of the sentence, since by themselves, they constitute sentences. These express attitudes, sensations and feelings of the speaker, in the same way, the appeal to the listener; for example: oh !, hey !, bravo !, come on !, my God !, etc.

Explain the two kinds of words.

The open class words are those that belong to the category of content words, that is, of the parts of speech that admit new members. The words of open classes in English are nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

In short, open-class words are continually changing, by adding new words taken from other languages or formed by morphological means and eliminating others.

While closed class words are those that belong to the category of functional words, that is, of the parts of speech that do not easily accept new members. Closed class words in English include pronouns, determiners, conjunctions, and prepositions.

These word classes are limited in number and act as markers or guides to the structure of a sentence.

List about 5 examples of invented words in the field of computer technology

  • Spam, which is used to refer to “sending and posting mass advertising”, or also “stupid, purposeless and irritating messages”.

  • Tweet, which is used to describe the act of posting a 140-character message on the social network Twitter.

  • Hashtag, which is a label made up of one or more words preceded by the pound symbol (#). These convey an idea, name or concept that is normally associated with a message or text.

  • Webinar, is the term used to refer to the conferences that are held online.

  • Metadata, corresponding to highly structured data that describes information, content, quality, condition and more characteristics of the data.

  • Engagement, an indicator that measures the interaction of social network users with the brand or company.

  • Byte, used to designate the unit of information used by computers.

Research closed classes and give 5 examples as well. Try to explore more.

In the English language, words like "the", "a", "he", "they", "to", "from" and "our" are part of the closed class. These are words that remain stable and no new pronouns or articles are introduced on a regular basis.

You did your best in answering it in your own words. You had a few errors with your punctuations, your markdowns and clarity of language. Some of your sentences were confusing but dont worry that is why we are here to help. I hope that you get better as we move forward.
