** SHATTERED DREAM **

BY

image-1.png

I imagined it clearly like a crystal ball
It refleted brighter than a diamond
I thought I checked all the list, but I missed one

I felt on top of the world when I took the first step
it even felt better on the first glimpse of success
Am like, look at me now winning

I didn't know a small pin could burst a Tyre
I didn't know the missed one could take me back to square one
Even kick me out of Dreamland

Now that the glass of dream is shattered
Who will pick it up, because it feels like I turned lame
The sound of broken Glass broke questions to my mind
What about the billion dollars dream?
What about the nice view mansions?
What about the luxurious lifestyle?

Then I felt life in my hands
Heading for one piece of glass at a time
Look at me back on my feet
Ready to try again
Ready to go hard with full armour of experience

Tell life it can't hurt me
Tell life it can't break me down
Even with a shattered glass of dream
I will reflect greatness into reality.

Analysis Of The Poem

The poem is about the poem reflecting on some difficult time in his life, when he thought things were already going well but life happened.

Looking at stanza one, we can see the use of simile there, when he compared is already planned dream to a crystal ball and his plan on how to execute it to a diamond. The last line in stanza one is like a snippet to his challenges in the next stanzas.

Stanza two was about how he took bold step in achieving his dream and how things were looking good.

Stanza three was opposite the the stanza two because that's when he made it known that the smallest of things he overlooked when he was making plans for his dream, came back to hunt him, he made a direct comparison to a pin bursting a Tyre and he used the clause “kick me out of Dreamland” to illustrate well.

Stanza four was about how heartbroken he was and how he almost gave up when he said “I felt like I turned lame”, but stanza four wasn't just about the heartbreak but the poet also broke a glimpse of light when he talked about how his fancy dream of luxurious life brought back life to him and rekindle his faith and determination to be successful and this time he his more experienced from learning from his past mistake.

The poem finished with direct lines of message to life, about his determination to succeed and that life can't keep him down, and that “even with a shattered glass of dream he would reflect greatness to reality”.

The poem is written by I(Gbenga Emmanuel) and am the copyright owner.
