Greetings friends, today I will be doing my first assignment of the English course. I am quite excited because every time we do things in a good way we get good results.
Explain in your own understanding the definition of Word.
It is a linguistic unit, generally endowed with meaning, which is separated from others by pauses in pronunciation and blanks in writing. The sums of all these result in a specific meaning of its own. Each of them fulfills a specific function according to the context in which it is used.
The same, formed by a set of articulated sounds, associated or several senses and that have a specific grammatical category. The term is also considered as a graphic representation through signs, letters or sounds, regardless of whether they are English words.
List the word classes and give 5 examples each.
As explained to us, The word classes or parts of speech in English grammar are listed as follows:
- Substantive:
House, Louis, year, week, aging, ice cream. - Pronun:
that one, it, it, it, it, them, them. - Verb:
To dance, sing, wash, cook, jog. - Adjective:
Fearsome, funny, cute, nice, nice, fat.
Adverb:
Very, yes, surely, very, very, quickly.... - Preposition:
To, before, under, fits, with, against. - Conjunction:
For, although, though, as, when, when, because, although. - Interjection:
ouch, oh, ah, hello, 'hurrah!'
Explain the two classes of words.
Open class:
Refers to the category of content words , that is, parts of speech (or word classes ) that readily accept new members, in contrast to the closed class , which does not. Open classes in English are nouns , lexical verbs , adjectives and adverbs . Open class words comprise a large part of any language. Unlike closed class words, which are finite, the possibility of creating and adding new words to an open word class is practically infinite.Closed class: "Closed-class words or 'function words' are limited in number and act as markers or guides to the structure of a sentence. The function of articles is to mark nouns. Prepositions mark special relationships between persons, objects, and locations. Conjunctions are connectors that link actors or objects and specify relationships between clauses in the sentence
