Steem Skillshare: Your First Step to Unlock Microsoft Excel's Limitless Capability
A week ago I publish an article introducing a lesson for Microsoft Excel Programming. Microsoft Excel Programming or Excel Macro is a set of actions or instructions you give to Excel that let Excel perform a task on its own with speed and accuracy. If you are using Microsoft Excel then this FREE lesson is for you.
I decided to publish free lessons on Microsoft Excel Programming to inspire Steemians to continuously find ways to make things easier. For today's free lesson, I will introduce to you the first step that you should do to unlock the wonderful world of Excel Programming. I would suggest open your Microsoft Excel and follow these steps:
- On your Microsoft Excel sheet, go to Home ribbon.
- Select Options.
- Go to Customize Ribbon and check the "Developer" checkbox.
- Now you can see the "Developer" on the file tab. Now go and select the Developer tab.
- Once you select the Developer tab, a new window will open. Welcome to the Microsoft Excel programming world. To create your first macro, select that square icon and select "Module" on the dropdown.
- A blank canvass where you can write your first macro will open.
- As your first macro, copy the below codes and paste it to the module. You can write anything within the message box.
Sub myfirstmacro()
MsgBox "hello Steemit, I am @yourusername"
End Sub
This may be a simple set of instructions but the codes you can embed to excel is limitless.
- To make it more exciting, we will create a button that when clicked will execute this code. Sounds fun right? Go back to your excel sheet and insert a rectangle.
- Right click on the rectangle and select "Assign Macro".
- Now select "myfirstmacro" and click OK.
- When you click that square button, the macro will run. There you have it, you first macro. Enjoy clicking on that button :) .
On our next lessons, we will increase our competency further and try out another code. Write on your comment below for your suggestions on our next lesson.
Best regard to @milakz, @papi.mati and the rest of the MOD of this community. Thank you allowing us to share skills here.
