Visual Hierarchy

in Steem Skillshare5 years ago

Hello Steem skillshare members, how are you all? I hope you're doing well.

Well, lately I've been very busy with my work in the real world, as I introduced earlier, that I'm a video editor, and also a graphic designer.

And I also open up opportunities for all of you who are here to learn graphic design with me or can also help you if you need or are looking for a graphic designer to create a visual design that you need. Now if you want to contact me, you can contact me on my contacts or social media which I include below this post.

This time, there is one material that is basic but very important for us to know that is included in this graphic design concept, namely Visual Hierarchy.

Do you know what is meant by this Visual Hierarchy? let's discuss.

Visual hierarchy is a simple aspect, but it can make a huge impact in creating a design. This visual hierarchy can guide the audience to focus on something that is most important in the delivery of communication through visual images so that the audience can understand the information presented in a design.

So far, what do you understand? If not, I'll make an example for you.

Without Hierarchy

image.png

This is an article in a poster that does not have a hierarchical aspect, in the form of a poster that has writing like this, do you know which part is the focus of this poster?

Because all the writings in this poster have the same size, so there is no point of focus or emphasis on a message in this poster, and it makes us confused which part to read first.

With Hierarchy.

How about this poster? are you better at reading it? of course images like this are better to look at than the previous image and the audience will more easily understand the information conveyed in this image.

Better Hierarchy.

Now, if the poster is like this, this is a development from the previous hierarchical aspect and with a poster like this, besides being able to help the audience understand the information well, it also makes the design look better and more attractive so that the audience will be more interested in reading the information displayed.

In cases like the picture above, I change the title to stand out, so that it can be the focal point of this picture, and arrange the sentence groups as neatly as possible so that the audience's eyes know which information to read first.

Conclusion.

After we study the hierarchical aspect of a design, we can conclude that we must give an emphasis or focus to the audience by giving a different title, or the object that we want to display, that is, by increasing the size of another object or providing a contrasting color, and other forms of affirmation.

And you can be creative with this hierarchical concept in the designs that you make so that you can convey a firm tone to your designs, Thank you, Happy Designing.

Your layout conforms to some research that I conducted decades ago in visuomotor organization. Most people think that people are right/left-brained. In the case of how people process visual information, I found that there are four quadrants. People have a dominant eye. You can test this by pointing at a corner on the ceiling with both eyes open. Holding your finger steady and closing each eye alternately, you can quickly see which is the dominant one.

There is also another division. If you grew up with left-handed people in any of your classes, a few would point their pen upwards as they wrote, while others will point their pen downwards. I am one of the latter, and it is almost like I am standing on my head when I write. So people see things "faster" in either an up/down direction. Typical right-handed people will see things in the upper right corner first, lower-left corner second, lower right corner than upper left corner last. Your poster demonstrates the results of my experiment very well.
