Any design starts with an idea or dream. It is very important to have a design of interior in your mind first. As it guarantees much more success than when you start acting first. When you take the picture from your mind and put it on the paper is called planning and sketching. This way allows you to use all possibilities of that space without missing anything.
If you hire a designer you must be clear on delivering the message about space usage and functionality.

Is it better to hire a designer or do it by yourself?

There is no correct answer to this questions. First of all it depends on you and your skills. If you feel capable and motivated, then all you need is to take a paper and make measurements of the room.

If you feel that you are not good at planning and drawing. You still have not good picture of what the final product must look like and how to combine match materials then simply higher a designer who has technical knowledge as well as creativity.

Nowadays, thanks to Internet, Pinterest and all of the planner tools, anyone can really design and make a house by himself trying to avoid all sort of mistakes.
