Understanding the Camera.

This post will only focus on the Functionality and different modes present on your DSLR camera. How to use different modes and different techniques will come up in the upcoming post.

There are different types of Cameras in the market.

DSLR camera's
Point to Shoot Camera's
Mirrorless Camera's

Let's not go deep into types of Cameras rather let's focus on Modes of Cameras.

I will talk about the Nikon DSLR camera and to be precise will take Nikon D3500 into this topic.

So the Nikon D3500 looks like this.

Now we have different modes in the camera which you can see in the picture above.

The First and the main button is the On and Off knob which you can see on the top right of the camera. This button will help you in turning on and off the camera.

Then is the red button which records the videos.

Then you can see a button denoted as +/-, this button lets you change the aperture of the camera in the Manual Mode, I will explain Manual Mode in detail later in the post.

Then there is the Dail on the camera which helps you to navigate into different capturing modes. Let's get started with the Dail.

Auto Mode

In this mode, the camera sets everything by itself and you don't have to do any settings in the camera and is useful for beginners(I personally don't use the mode as it doesn't give you the best out of your camera). This mode is not reliable for a perfect photo.

No Flash Mode

This mode is exactly similar to auto mode, the only difference is in this mode the Flash won't work in any conditions whether it is low light or any situation.

Portrait Mode

This mode helps you when you want to capture a Portrait Pic of a person or object this Mode gives priority to the subject and the background and gives you the depth accordingly.

Sports Mode

In this mode, the camera captures the moving object and stills it and then processes the image example like you are trying to shoot a running animal or try to capture a flying bird then this mode is suitable.

Landscape Mode

This mode sets the camera to capture the Landscape perfectly it changes the white balance accordingly and helps you to sharpen the image.

Effects Mode

This mode is the most pathetic mode in the DSLR cameras, it just an effect that is not at all required, and the outcome after using this mode is pathetic. DON'T ever use this mode it's just for fun :P

PRO MODES

Now comes the Pro modes of the DSLR camera which mostly all Professional Photographer use.

Manual Mode (M on the Dial)

This mode is one of the best and recommended mode, but be careful with this mode as you need to know the camera before using the mode and you need to be really pro for this type of Photography. In this mode, you can change all the aspects of the camera like ISO range, Exposure, and Aperture.

Manual Mode is used for Professional Photography, use this mode to make the best use of your camera. This mode can give you amazing photos and shots.

Aperture Mode(A on the Dial)

Aperture Mode mainly focuses on the Aperture of the camera it gives you the amount of light required to click an image and is set on priority on this mode other than Aperture everything else is self-controlled by the camera. Aperture Mode is mostly used when you need to lighten the image.

Shutter Mode(S on the Dail)

Shutter Mode is used when you need to click the light trails or moving lights, this mode focuses on the Shutter Speed of the camera the low the shutter speed the less light falls on the camera mirror.

Shutter speed should be set according to the ISO and aperture of the camera.

Programmed Auto(P on the Dail)

In this mode, the camera automatically adjusts shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure in most situations. This mode is recommended for snapshots and other situations in which you want to leave the camera in charge of shutter speed and aperture.

I will make a different post with more understanding and more photos in different modes till then enjoy photography.
