As far as I know that, there is a term called Steem witness, one you get into steem witness list you have to set up a server and once you identify the block you will earn Steem.
In BTC mining you have to just set up server and start mining but In steem you also have to get vote from the community so you can reach the steem witness ranking than you are eligible for earning.
