Liew Thow Lin (31 March 1930 - 9 April 2013) (Chinese: 劉少林) of Malaysia was known as the "Magnet Man", (Chinese: 磁人),[1] "Magnetic Man"[2] or "Mr. Magnet"[3] because he had the ability to stick metal objects to his body.
Liew performed in many charity events showing his ability.[citation needed] He could cause metal objects, weighing up to 2 kg each, up to 36 kg total,[3] to stick to his skin. He also pulled a car using this ability.[4]
Liew's ability was not due to any source of magnetism. Scientists from Malaysia's University of Technology found no magnetic field in Lin's body, but did determine that his skin exhibits very high levels of friction,[3] providing a "suction effect".[4] The trait appears to be genetic, appearing in Lin's three grandchildren.[3] Liew was featured on the second episode of the Discovery Channel'sGary Turner is a sideshow performer. He holds the current Guinness World Record for the stretchiest skin, caused by a serious form of Ehlers Danlos syndrome. On October 29, 1999, in Los Angeles, he stretched the skin on his abdomen to a total length of 6.25 inches, earning him the record.[1][2] He performed in the short film He Took His Skin Off For Me.[3] He was also a member of The Circus of Horrors in 2005.

katana (刀 or かたな) is a Japanese sword characterized by a curved, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. Developed later than the tachi, it was used by samurai in feudal Japan and worn with the blade facing upward. The katana belongs to the nihontō family of swords, and is distinguished by a blade length (nagasa) of more than 2 shaku, approximately 60 cm (24 in).[9]
Katana can also be known as dai or daitō among Western sword enthusiasts, although daitō is a generic name for any Japanese long sword, literally meaning "big sword".[10]
As Japanese does not have separate plural and singular forms, both katanas and katana are considered acceptable forms in English.[11]

With a few exceptions, katana and tachi can be distinguished from each other, if signed, by the location of the signature (mei) on the tang (nakago). In general, the mei should be carved into the side of the nakago which would face outward when the sword was worn. Since a tachi was worn with the cutting edge down, and the katana was worn with the cutting edge up, the mei would be in opposite locations on the tang.[14]
