Es la sexta entrega de la serie de películas Misión imposible y es protagonizada por Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin y Sean Harris, quienes regresan a sus papeles anteriores, junto con Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby, Sian Brooke y Angela Bassett, que se unen a la franquicia.
La película fue estrenada el 27 de julio de 2018, por Paramount Pictures, y es la primera película en la serie en ser estrenada en 3D.
