The star wars sequels were a huge event, a lot of people got into star wars again, a loto of people just kept hating star wars even more, disney was able to make insane amounts of money wich eventually lead to disney buying FOX, and the general consensus about this three movies are that they are pretty bad and of course they are not at the level of the original trilogy, but ¿How did that happen?, well this was a basic problem of narrative structure and storytelling, and you can learn more about it on this video.
