Getting New Chickens via Bartering// Urban Homesteading

Welcome back and thanks for joining us today as we are headed to get some new chickens! We are currently staying in a house in a small town on the middle of nowhere. We have been friends with the home owner for a while now, and he is excited about what we are doing with the place!

On our trip today we are going on an adventure to a place we have never been before. It ended up being about 40 minutes from where we are, and tucked up into some hills.

This was an amazing deal for these birds because I worked out a trade. When we came to this house we acquired alot of stuff during the house clean out, and I traded something that I found for the birds.

The beauty of bartering is value. It is about exchanging something that someone really wants. This person, turns out really wanted what I was trading. I went there with a goal of 8 to 10 birds.....and came home with 14. I love chicken math!

Where we are, the prices have gone up on everything due to the pandemic. Normally laying hens are 10 dollars and now they are about 30. These 3 month old birds average 10 dollars each. This was a great deal.

We love that we get to take you along and share in the adventure. It wad a beautiful drive, and we got to see some beautiful animals!
