RE: Is Social Media Making Us Toxic? And What Can We Do about It?
I think social media has definitely made the situation worse in recent years, but it's just amplifying a sort of dehumanization that has been taking root almost since the start of the Internet... saw shades of it even in the 90's on forums and newsgroups where "text on a screen" in your living room somehow removed the reality that there was a real person somewhere, typing those words. A real person, with real feelings that could be really hurt.
I'm sorry to hear you were attacked for holding your point of view.
Yeah I did watch a documentary on trolls once actually and interviewing the very first trolls and they literally were in forums and if someone had an emotional reaction to trolling they shared their profile with the group so everyone could jump on. They literally just spent all their spare time upsetting ppl for no monetary gain at all. Now you can actually
Get Monterey gain from triggering ppl it’s gotten even worse. Amazing how some ppl
Waste their time tho lol
Getting used to not emotionally reacting to trolls is prob one of the most valuable skills to learn if going online lol
