Today is 14 January and on this day every year we celebrate the festival of Makar Sankranti and today is also International Kite Day. Markets are packed with kite aficionados and festival goers buying supplies days before the festivities.It commemorates the transition from winter to summer, as as well as the upcoming winter crop harvest. It is said that the kite was invented in China but it became famous in India. There are many events in many places around the world where people gather and fly kites.
