Steemit Engagement Challenge S8-W2 | Gender visibility and equality

in Steem Cameroonlast year (edited)

Hello Friends, This is another good and excellent topic from Steem Cameroon. A topic that coincided with an all-important international event within the week and also my time of participation. Today the 8th day of March 2023 is International Women's Day, celebrated all over the world in commemoration of our special and precious gender (The Women) and all other contributions to the living space.

What is the value of life (7).jpg

Introduction

Gender Inequality is one of the perennial and persisting vices that has affected our female folks in the world. A concerted effort has been put in to drive this agenda which would help ameliorate the discrimination and public subjection among women in society. Most importantly, we have to understand that gender equity does not in any way equates the right of men to that of women but however, gives the female gender an opportunity just like the other gender would have. For me, it is an opportunity and support-driven ideology that one attracts to his space and society at large.

They have been a skewed ideology of what womanhood should represent in our present-day society. If we remember very well the position of the holy bible on how a woman was created. The woman was created out of the man as a helper and not a subject to be discriminated against. Rather she was supposed to be a support and helper in all capacities to the male gender.

How can you help your community forge a gender-equal world?

We have to be intentional about our actions and reactions as we coexist in society. We cannot preach equality while our actions say different and contrary actions towards that. If we observe very well, there is a saying that Charity Begins at Home. We have to get it right from the home. Most of us have children of mixed gender. We cannot continue to assign roles and chores to the female gender to prepare them for their future husbands without having complimentary training for the male child to as well prepare them for their future wives.

Society has failed given this singular behavioral pattern. What we plant is what we reap over a long time period. The mess we see today given the decay in the society where the female gender is subjected to all kinds of abuse and discrimination is a result of yesteryears practices. Most of us are victims of these in our different homes as we continue to be selective in our choice of assigning responsibilities to our children. However, we need to balance this so as to remove some gender-based dichotomy among them.

Also, we have to be intentional about educating our girl child. There is a saying that Educating the girl child is educating the whole community. This is simply because of their impact on the community and unwavering support to grow their family on all developmental fronts. These, on the other hand, would reposition her for greater positions in society as well as create brilliance and intelligent ideologies within her confines. My role here is to support this project called Educating the Girl Child.

Another great injustice we do to women is to promote this subjection, discrimination, and inequality in society by giving them out to Early Marriages. With every sense of humor, the girl child should not be traded out so early. If the minimum time for the man (male gender) cannot be given out as early as 13 years to any marital obligations, then why would the woman be largely subjected to this crime? My knowledge about this simply entails that I preach it to all that would and not want to listen.

Can celebrating Women's International day increase visibility and equality?

Definitely YES. Celebration is one of the ways we can publicize what we believe in and as well create the required consciousness needed to forge ahead. Hence, celebrating Women's International day would definitely work in the same parameter and as well create the required visibility needed. I have always in my opinion noted that the media hype given to women is more far-reaching than what we have when the men are celebrating. (I guess there is an inequality in this regard, LOL).

When we look at the several media channels today, they are all talking about women and how best to propagate their existential prowess in society. Just to tell us how broad this visibility is, I have received emails from my different financial institutions, telling me about today, the International Women's day celebration, and the likely facility available to them in case they are in need of any loan offers.

Are the Feminism fight and the Women’s Rights fight the same?

My simple understanding of these two projects is that they are both women's project fronts pursuing the same objective. The women's rights fight is basically carrying out their approaches in a more decent and cultured manner where the sense of adopting its course is given a fair hearing. Unlike what is obtainable from the Feminism fight, where the same demands are made but in extreme measures to actualize them. They are primarily called women rights extremists.

Just as I have made some basic demands observed from the plights of the women's right project, where issues of education for all is championed, abolishment of early girl child marriages, laws to stop rape and girl child abuses, as well as equality in political positions. All these are communicated in a more humane manner so as to draw empathy and compassion on why these agendas should be carried. Whereas, all we see from feminism is a violent approach in propagating the so-called agenda which I still doubt if they know what they stand for. They are ill-spoken in communication, irresponsible in their behavioral pattern, and of late they now indulge in lifestyles similar to that of Lesbians.

What do you say about women in top positions like Presidents, Parliamentarians, Senators, CEOs (Chief Executive Officers), and COO (Chief Operations Officers)? Give possible examples in your country(community)

I have a genuine passion when I see women in top positions, occupying some important office in my country and the world at large. This simply gives me the desired impression to talk about women and their expertise if given the opportunity to serve. The only thing the women gender needs the education and exposure. They are a subtle and intelligent set of beings that only require an opportunity and our support to get to their full potential.

Despite the international committee of nations for free women's participation in political and other political appoints of at least 25%, my country has been found below this threshold. However, there are a number of women recognized nationally and internationally in different capacities, who have attended top positions.

One of these kinds is our amiable sister and mother from the south-eastern region of Nigeria, who presently is heading the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Okonji Iweala.

Before now, she was also one of the directors for Africa in the World Bank., and also one time Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy in my dear country Nigeria. She is a typical example of why a woman should be given an opportunity to serve.

Another typical example of a great woman who has made it to the top is Oby Ezekwesili who is an activist and as well a former Minister of Education in my dear country. During her reign in this position, she was seen to have performed so well that was exemplary.

Another on my list who I won't forget to mention is a woman that fought tirelessly for y dear country in eradicating issues of drugs and their proliferation. she was one person that destroyed several drug warehouses, and blocked inflows/outflows of drugs and drug trafficking. She is nobody else than Dora Akunyili.

What makes a Good Leader (Gender or merit)

Ideally what makes a good leader is by merit and not gender. Leadership is not driven by gender but by merit and all other factors. There are no clear facts holding strong for any of the genders being more brilliant or intelligent than the other. However, it is a game of chance and opportunity.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded electioneering process made mention of a fact in he has tested and confirmed. He said during his stay as the Governor of the state, that 70% of his cabinet composition was women. This was simply because they were easy to work with, intelligent, and less CORRUPT. And to prove his points, the state was observed to have performed excellently in many of the indices accessed by both national and international bodies.

Conclusion

Gender Equity and Visibility is a welcome project by the international body that would help in pressing the demands of women's rights and participation in society. It is a conscious effort tailored towards achieving the basic demands of all women for a safe coexistence in society. However, a better coexistence between both genders is more enduring as many are of the opinion that the woman's enemy is the woman.
