I don't see a day of celebration increasing the visibility of equality.

I am surprised by your stance on this given your stated opinion on this. Firstly there is an International Men's day celebrated just like the men's day. However, a celebration and date like this brings a conscious and deliberate drive to pass on the message of gender equality. There are obvious reasons to this effect as we continue to see discriminately stance and visible dichotomy between both genders in society.
