What Do I Know About My Country Independence |

One of the greatest joy a country experience is when they gain independence from a foreign government. Independence I mean being able to pilot the affairs of the country without foreign interference. That was the joy Nigeria experienced on 1st of October 1960. This was the day that Nigeria got her independence from the British government. Later on, she became a republic making it the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is what I know according to History.

The first event that happens on October 1st is the congratulatory speech made by the President of Nigeria. The speech is broadcast across all radio stations and television channels in Nigeria.
After the speech, celebrations is made in all states in Nigeria. The headquarters is The Eagle Square in Abuja. This is where the President goes to address the citizens of Nigeria while celebrating with them. The Key Point of the event is usually March past from Students and groups. The fun continue with the students as they displayed their talents to the amazement of the public.

The impact of Independence is greatly felt in my country because of it's importance in Nigeria History. It's impact includes:
- Revival Of Unity Among Citizens: The celebration of Independence has an outstanding impact on the citizens which is Unity. Independence celebration send a message to all citizens to put aside tribalism or ethnicity in order to build a better Nigeria.
- Remembrance Of Independence Heroes: There were people who fought for Nigeria's independence. I refer them to as independence heroes. People like Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Sir Tafewa Balewa, etc are remembered and celebrated on this day.

In my country Nigeria, retired civil servants lived a life which may be full of misery. This is because the benefits of retirees are not paid when due. And some of them suffers a great deal before they get their benefit. So, I'll say that Retiree day should be celebrated on the 3rd of October yearly. This will help the government to remember them and help alleviate this plight they go through.
