Hello steemians,
It is week 2 of the steemit engagement challenge for season 8 and I'm delighted to be part of those participating in the contest organised by this amazing community. This week, the topic of discussion is Gender visibility and equality. Gender equality is a serious issue we have been facing in our different societies and today I will be giving my view on the said topic by answering the questions given below.

Before we proceed, it is important to mention here that in many communities of the world today most especially African, gender has always been an issue. Gender refers to a man or a woman. In our various societies today, there are things that we feel a man alone should do and there are things that we feel that are meant for women alone hence a man shouldn't be seen doing that.

👉🏾 How can you help your community forge a gender-equal world?

In most communities, gender is a very serious issue and that happens mostly here in Africa. Marginalization is always the order of the day because we felt that there are things that should only be done by a man or a woman. This has become a serious cancer worm which has eaten deep into the fabric of our nation.

Most persons grew up with this notion and hence felt it is normal to have a woman always in a low position because they feel she is a woman and hence can not do what a man can do. In my opinion, to help my community form a gender-equal world, all I need is to give everyone the same opportunities both men and women alike.

Whenever there is anything to be done, I should set any restrictions for those who are eligible in terms of gender. Women should have as much the same opportunity as men to do the same thing. Here, as an assistant lecturer, I have always tried to ensure that both parties always participate fully in the same action.

I have my course representatives from the students and I decided to pick men and women and anything the men are doing, the women also do the same. I don't look at their gender when dealing with both of them. In that way, the women feel among and they try to even do better.

Most times I set them on a competition to bring out the best in them. So I don't limit anyone because of their gender they are. I believe allowing them all to work in the same field at all times will make them feel the same and that will help the community gain a gender-equal world.

👉🏾 Can celebrating Women's International day increase visibility and equality?

mine.PNG

Yes, it will go a long way in increasing the visibility and equality of women. We all know that the celebration of women's international day doesn't mean just celebrating every woman but celebrating women who have stood out among others. Many women have kept a very good track record and hence celebrating them will encourage others not to limit themselves.

We have seen women who did what a man can not do. These are women that deserve to celebrate international women's day. When we see this achievement made by the women via this celebration, the respect that men have for women tends to increase even more because they have proven to be worthy of the respect.

So in my opinion, celebrating women's international day will go a long way to increase women's visibility to the world and also foster equality between them and men. A woman as we have seen or heard handles some situations even better than men do.

👉🏾 Are the Feminism fight and the Women’s Rights fight the same?

mine.PNG

No the feminism fight and the woman's rights fight are not the same. When we talk about the feminist fight, we are referring to the fight that woman do base on legal and social restriction which is imposed on them. The feminist fight is aimed at the legal and social restrictions removed so that they don't have to answer to any man. They call themselves boss ladies because they don't need a man to have control over their lives.

On the other hand, the women's rights fight is on marginalization and unfair treatment by men all over the world. As a woman, she also has the right to live a good and happy life hence things that they are supposed to do shouldn't be held against them. So women's rights fight is so that they too can be givens the opportunity to present their ideas which can be even the best.

👉🏾 What do you say about women in top positions like Presidents, Parliamentarians, Senators, CEOs (Chief Executive Officers), and COO (Chief Operations Officers)? Give possible examples in your country(community)

mine.PNG

In my opinion, women can also do better than men when it comes to handling political positions. Though in my country Nigeria, women hardly get themselves involved in politics the few ones who have done that have proven that they are worth it. A good example I will be given today is Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iwela.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iwela is one of the very plenty ministers of finance and economics who has stood out among others. The economy of Nigeria has never been the same again since she left the position. She worked with a few presidents that recorded tremendous growth due to her presence.

Since she left the position, the economy of the country has been crumbling beyond recovery. In my opinion, for the economy of any country to grow properly, we need women like Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iwela on the seat. I'm a strong advocate of allowing women to handle sensitive positions because they handle them better.

👉🏾 What makes a Good Leader (Gender or merit)

mine.PNG

A good leader is not associated with gender but rather with merit. Anyone with the quality of leadership should be given the opportunity no matter their gender. For the growth of any community to be effective, we must look beyond gender and look at the qualities that the individual possesses.

So In my opinion, age, gender and tribe should not be considered when choosing a good leader. Currently in Nigeria, the presidential election took place and the entire youth voted for competency and not based on tribe or gender. This is how leaders should be chosen.

Conclusion

mine.PNG

Gender equality and visibility should be promoted by all to make the world a better place. When we give the qualified the opportunity to rule then those in the land will enjoy the fruit of the land but if we discard the qualified and pick the unqualified because of gender then the masses will suffer for it for a long time. I want to finally invite a few friends to also join this contest today if they have not presented their entries. I call on @fjjrg, @graceleon, @bambuka, @inspiracion and @msharif to join the contest.

Thanks @graceleon for the support. It means a lot to me

I like the solution you offer to establish gender equality. Men and women both have the same right to succeed and have the same position. Good luck for the contest. I have also participated in this contest.

Thanks for your wonderful comment and support. It means a lot to me.

So relateable.
You have argued out your point and provided real-life examples to back them up.

So many women who had contributed immensely to their nation's development and home have been sidelined and not given the due accolades they deserve because the society feels like her achievements should be recognized through her husband.

Even till this day, most people feel threaten when a woman is given what they suppose to be "undue" attention.

It will take a while to purge people (including the women themselves) of this biased view.

Also, leaders should be chosen based on merit, not religion, tribe or gender.
