Some common health myths 2 by @shance-light

Hello steemians, receive greetings from my end, today i will be talking on some health myth about diabetes.
Thanks to all those that read my previous post. With this notice i wish to call the attention of the fact that, i am not writing a documentary or a research paper on these topics but i am trying to counsel some believe that exists in our communities. I know steemit is a big platform having a variety of people, but you will agree with me that some of this myths still exist in our community, so we can also learn through these kinds of write up. Thanks @wandass73 for your corrections.

Scenario.

Part of community nursing is by going out for home visits. We went out one day and we were visiting houses. We met this mama in her house, she was looking very weak, but her size and the building didn't show like someone who is very poor or couldn't feed herself. In the process of communicating i realized that mama was rescently diagnosed of diabetes. That day was her first visit to the centre but about 2 weeks before then, she was under monitoring/observation before being confirmed.
Those 2 weeks had been hell for her already, she had lost hopes and verbalizing that she's not sure she'll be able.
I tried getting her reason and encouraging her that people had had diabetes and still stay healthy and live long... so i tried getting her reasons. She said;
for the past 2 weeks almost all what i have normally been living on has been stopped. My friends said i should be drinking bitterleaf every morning, i am but its provoking gastritis, they said i shouldn't drink tea or juice not even milk, i shouldn't eat ripe plantains or sweet potatoes, i dont like water fufu or corn fufu but i am forced to eat it because its not sweet. But yet i am getting weaker everyday.

Just like the above scenario, many diabetics Patients are confused on what to eat and what not to.
diabetes in a lay language is the inability of the pancreas to secretes sufficient insulin or the glucose (sugar) is to high and the body is not able to absorb all.(type 1 & 2).
The most common term is sugar. And so many things that when you are diabetic you ought not to see sugar or any sweet stuff.

One thing that's mostly forgotten in this disease is that that excess sugar can at times goes down hypoglycemia which is also an issue.

The "do" and "donts" are too much, you may prevent all sweet or sugary stuff but you are on dialy basis eating water fufu or corn fufu which also realizes much quantity of glucose sugar in the bloodstream after digestion.

so should you starve or what are the right food to eat as a diabetic patient?

There's no wrong or write food, as its always said Patients may have similar issues but need different care.
Being hypoglycemic will require you to eat things that can raise glucose levels and when hyperglycemic avoid things that will raise blood sugar.
This will normally be confusing for a lay man

My suggestion is that; as a diabetic patient, register with a diabetic clinic, from there they will advise and educate you based on your situation and place you on treatment.
Most at times when on treatment already ask the health personnel what you need to avoid and when.
Live a normal life and control your sugar as prescribed by the doctor and if there's any increase or decrease than the normal value, report to the clinic.
Please don't starve or take bitter things, these wi not converts the sugar in your blood to something else.
Live health and happily
