[#CLUB75] The Relationship Between The Seasons and Temperature

in Steem Cameroon2 years ago (edited)
Hello my Cameroonian steemians. I hope all is well in our various ends. Well today I am going to share with us all information that whether we might be hearing it for the first time, or we have heard about it before.

The Relationship Between Seasons And Temperature

We all attribute different feelings to different times of the day and different seasons. So many things are being generalized. To be specific, I all going to be talking based on the seasons in my country: the dry and rainy season.

During different seasons, the way we dress changes because of the temperature. So I tried to understand more about the science underlying all this.

Dry season and temperature

I am going to start with the dry season. The dry season in Cameroon normally starts around mid November and ends around mid March. Though due to climate change, the climate cannot be fully predicted as accurately like this.

The dry season is characterized by the word “dry”. Rains no longer fall which make the soil loose moisture. As moisture is lost, plants start to wilt and dry. The earth can no longer hold itself together and the top part turns to dust.

Because the plants are wilted, and there is little or no water in the ground as even streams and springs have gone down, this causes little water to be moved around in the water cycle.

All of this results to little humidity in the air and very few clouds are formed. Thus, we usually have a bright blue sky. Now how does this affect the temperature? Let us find out.

When the sun is out shining bright in the afternoon, there are little or no clouds to shield us from it. So the sun’s rays are falling upon the earth directly. This heats up the ground pretty quickly and before you know it, temperatures have risen drastically.

Now, when evening comes and the sun goes away, heat that was absorbed from the sun by the soil leaves the earth's atmosphere quickly because there are no clouds to stop it from happening. Because of this, nights and mornings when the sun isn't shining are extremely cold.

Take note that the temperature fluctuates between it's extremes in this season.

Rainy season and temperature

Now, the rainy season is characterized by frequent rainfall. This means that there is so much water locked up in the soil.

The lakes, streams and springs are filled with water. Thus, enough water goes through the water cycle. What does this result to? None other than numerous clouds heavy with water vapour. Now, how does this affect temperature?

During the daytime when sun is shining, the heavy clouds shield us from feeling the full effect of the sun's rays. So places are hot but not the same as the dry season.

Now at night, the ground which had absorbed heat from the sun during the day releases the heat. But the heat is trapped by the heavy clouds from leaving. Which results to us having hot nights.

Also, let us not forget that the number of hours for which the sun shines during the day also affects how the temperatures may be in addition to all that I have said. So if little sun shines, the temperature is bound to be low no matter the season.

I hope we have been able to learn something and actually understand what goes on around us.

Thanks for reading.
