Hi wonderful people of steem Cameroon how are you all doing I hope all is well, today I will be taking part in the official contest organized by the @steemCameroon official account with the theme "Elections in my country".

In my entry I will be discussing and sharing with you guys what I think of election in my country, what I think about the system, how it's done, it's transparency and my own opinion on how carry it out effectively and I sincerely hope you all will enjoy reading through it.

ELECTION

Election as a process can be defined as a process whereby all qualify adult citizens are given the right to choose who their leader would be and excercise their franchise through the process of voting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ELECTIONS IN YOUR COUNTRY

What I think about election as a process and as an act in my country Nigeria is though we are operating a democratic system of government but the system seems to be corrupted by our leaders.

Elections was meant to be free and fair but in my country Nigeria it's not always like that because some politicians will choose to buy votes from voters but thanks to our current president who tried to stop such acts and tried to change the currency before the general election was conducted.

Because a lot of politicians has embezzle a lot of money so when he changed the currency it was difficult for them to be able to buy votes from voters, in short aside from it affecting the well being of the citizens the out going general election that was conducted some weeks ago is the first time Nigeria has ever conducted a free but not fair election!! You may be wondering why I have to say "but not fair election" don't worry I will explain.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM IN YOUR COUNTRY?

The electoral system in my country was meant to be free and fair and the body responsible for conducting them is INEC (Independence National Electoral Commission). And it is a direct system where by the citizens are allowed to directly cast their votes in support of the candidate of their choice.

So now why I said that the election was free but not fair is that, in this year's general election the candidate that was declared the winner by INEC was against the decision of the masses, in democracy the election results was meant to be released immediately after the election process.

But in this one INEC hold the election results for almost a week and later came and announced Bola Tinubu as the winner and even up till now INEC have not yet release the complete results to their portal to be visible for everyone to see, everyone was in support of candidates peter obi.

So it surprises everyone how an independent body like INEC which has been given powers by the constitution to be manipulating election all because of money, so through this you all see that election in Nigeria was totally free but not fair.

HOW IS IT DONE IN YOUR COUNTRY?

How election is being done in my country Nigeria is that before the election the citizens will have to register in the INEC office and get a permanent voters card, and a certain period of time will be given to the politicians to do campaign.

And during the election you will go to your own ward or constituency and all voters will stand in line to votes the candidate of their choice that is being symbolize by political parties such as APC, PDP, LP, YPP etc and the voters will make a thumb print in a space available near the party logo of your choice.

And after the election the electoral commission INEC will then counts and announced the results of the total accepted votes cast.

IS IT TRANSPARENT AND FAIR IN YOUR COUNTRY..

Like I have stated earlier election in my country Nigeria is free no doubt but it is not transparent nor fair either, because election results was meant to be announced immediately after the election but the electoral commission (INEC) keep hold of the result for almost a week so as to manipulate the results that is why up till now there have not yet uploaded the complete results on the INEC portal online for Nigerians to see.

ASSUME THERE'S NO FAIRNESS AND EFFECTIVENESS AS FAR AS ELECTIONS ARE CONCERNED, WHAT SOLUTIONS CAN YOU PROPOSE TO ENSURE ITS BEING CARRIED OUT THE RIGHT WAY

Since a voting machine was introduced that will help make election fair but yet still it was still rig and manipulated, so at this point the only solution to ensure that election in my country is being carried out the right way is left for the electorate not to sell their vote for money and not to accept a penny from any candidates in exchange for their votes and support.
