Environment: My Carbon footprint

Someone for me

The weather today at upstation was cool and calm, with drizzling rain. I could feel that fresh winds rustling through the air. It was indeed that weather my indigens commonly referred to it as " weather for two".

Hahahah, you know i couldn't help but found my self play the song titled "Someone for me" the "missing rib" song by Stanley Okorie i kept repeating untill i dose off.

Before then, I could see a moody atmosphere with serenity over the quiet landscape of Upstation as drops of water felt from the sky. And so????....what next....

Memories alive

The events of today brought back memories of those days so fresh in my mind.
Do you remember those days when:

  • Our parents would usually start planting their crops by the 13th of March each year because they knew the rains would fall by the 15th?
  • The rain would drizzle every morning for about a week, and every student would either carry an umbrella or wear a raincoat?

  • We would have strong winds only once or twice towards the end of the rainy season?

How did we get here?

No single individual or cooporation is responsible for this damage. We all contributed to destroying our lone planet. Do you remember unlike cities and countries, there's no planent B?

Driven by our selfish desires, we want everything for ourselves and cannot even consider the needs of the next generation. We cut down trees without replanting, treating the soil with inorganic chemicals after improper tillage as if we expect a lifetime harvest from a single planting season. We dump waste on our streets without regard for the people living near these so-called "dump sites."

WHAT IS THE WAY OUT??

1. Accept the responsibility

Even though global platforms are increasingly focused on climate change and civil society organizations are rapidly multiplying to combat this wicked problem, there will be no success until you, the individual, decide to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. It must start with each person, and the collective actions will lead to global change.

2. Watch your Carbon footprint

Your Carbon footprint is simply the total amount of Carbondioxide equivalence you are emitting as a result of all the unsustainable activities you are involved with.

Deciding to reduce or limit these unsustainable activities is the only way we can reclaim our fresh air, stabilize temperatures, improve harvests, and enhance the quality of our environment. If you are concerned about these issues and wish to see the mortality rate in Africa and around the world restored to healthier levels, then TAKE ACTION.

How i will reduce my Carbon footprint

Like i said, its all about deciding to do it. It depends on who you are, what you are doing and which environment you find yourself. In either case, its possible. I will do the following to reduce my carbon footprint.

  • Take a walk to my workplace often rather than using a diesel car since we don't yet have electric cars in our town.
  • Endeavor not to waste food so that we don't have to use firewood to cook as often.
  • Compost our kitchen waste and use it to grow vegetables in our backyard. This way, we won't need to use fertilizer, and we will manage the waste better.
  • Sensitize my family so that we replace some of our meals with organic vegetables rather than meat, reducing the quantity of meat consumed per week.
  • Turn off my bulbs when I am sleeping and turn off the tap when I am brushing in the morning, only opening it when I want to rinse my teeth.

A call to action

Dear Steemian, as we strive to adopt a sustainable way of life for the sake of our health and our children's future, I encourage you to join this journey. If you don't know how to start, feel free to ask questions in the comment section. I look forward to hearing how you plan to reduce your own carbon footprint.
