Creative writing contest Vo 18|farming: how farming is done in your community?
I salute all the members of steem cameroon Community. And i specially greet all the famers in steem cameroon. I thank @thegreens for giving us the opportunity to share with others how farming is done in our different communities.
According to the knowledge i obtained in school, farming is the cultivation of crops and the rearing of animals for commercial or consumption purposes. In my country Cameroon, many individuals are self employed in the agricultural domain and it's from there that some industries in the country gets most of their raw materials so it greatly contribute to the income of the economy.
How is farming done in my community
In the North West region of cameroon and precisely Bamenda where i am located, the population is engaged in the cultivation of crops like maize, beans, groundnuts, soyabeans, yams, cabbages, potatoes etc and they are also in engaged in livestock like poultry, piggery, raising of goats etc.
Crops cultivation for instance Maize is mostly done intensively since land is a bit scarce in town. Here farmers cultivate on small pieces land. In the month of March, clearing, tilling and ridge formation is done. Then maintainance(weeding, mulching and application of fertilizers both organic and chemical), and finally harvesting is done in between the months of April, May, June and early July.
In the livestock domain plenty farmers are fattening pigs and fowls mostly for commercial purpose, for traditional marriage and death celebrations.
They do this by buying chicks(3weeks old), put them in a cage or house, feed and vaccinate them for over 3months when they become matured and they sale. The same goes with pigs raising where they buy piglets, keep in a penn or house or fence, feed the piglets till they become mature and they sale .

Tools used in my community
In my community, most farmers are unable to afford modern tools like tractors because they are not financially capable, some of the tools are not available in the country yet or because they are adapted to the local ones and prefer to use them. so they usually use local farming tools like
Hoes
matchets
Spade
Wheelbarrow
So revealing
Thank you
