International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is an international awareness day celebrated and observed every year on the 23rd of August.

This day was significantly commemorated by the UNESCO to remember the transatlantic slave trade.

This day creates an awareness and reminds people of the cruelty of how the slave trade affected the lives of over 15million people. Displacing and separating love ones into forced labour including children.

Its important to note that this slave trade affected the lives of many people and this was over a period of approximately 400years according to history books. This day is celebrated in memory of all the victims of this tragedy.

It Is important because it reminds people of how horrible this was and to prevent any events as such in the future and to frown against any events that can lead to or that promote modern day slavery.

The activities of the transatlantic slave was solely between the colonial masters from Europe who brought goods through the Atlantic ocean into Africa especially by the west African coast.

The main factor of exchange was human beings. Goods were being exchanged with black humans that were captured by African traders. All form of cruelty and for was used to put their victims under perpetual subjection.

When these people were captured goods were then exchanged In return. Goods such as tobacco and sugar was mainly the products. Something that will still link more people. It was really a pity.

There was major slave camp in Haiti, the carrabbean. When people were captured they were kept In this town and then commissioned to work in plantations in Europe and in the Americans.

All over the world and in my country Cameroon this day is celebrated by simply creating awareness about how inhuman slavery is. Being it modern day slavery or that which was practice d before and to discourage any form of slavery in our world today.by Promoting human rights and abolishing racism.
