Planting trees in the water catchment areas has so many benefits to the community involved and to the environment. Trees help pull up the water table in such a way that each community can have a constant water supply. Planting trees in a water catchment area is one best thing to do as the trees prevent the water from drying up or evaporating. Other environmental benefits of trees include the fact that they help to prevent flooding in a water catchment and soil erosion for sloppy areas, by absorbing thousands of litres of water to the ground

Planting trees for water conservation helps the environment in different ways.The branches of trees absorbed some of the water and remain fresh during the off season period. These trees help to combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while removing and storing carbon and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere .They improve air quality by trapping dust and other pollutants from the air. The shade of trees also provides a useful barrier to harmful ultra-violet radiation thus calming the temperature s and cleaning the atmosphere.

Planting trees in the water catchment area helps in the conservation of nature and the promotion or preservation of wildlife.Some trees that my team and I have planted in the water catchment areas are trees that are good for nourishing other animals .Bees can harvest nectar from flowers produced by tress like Calliandra, acxasia, luceana locosifala, accasia spectabilis and more.Their flowers beautify the environment and act as food to some animals. Their shade provides canopy cover to the catchment thus preventing frequently evaporation of water from the soil. The falloff leaves of trees provide manure to the shrubs or the underneath plants . They can therefore be harvested for animals to feed on .Other animals like birds and insects, bats and squirrels, also benefit from the trees as they provide a canopy and a habitat for many species of wildlife. But they don’t just act as a home for wildlife; fruits from some of the trees provide food for them too.Climate change is real and the only way to ensure that there will be water for the children of the future is to plant trees that will protect the environment and help generate water for the future . Trees for the future is an initiative to promote not only in words but in action. Humans, animals and the environment depend upon trees for survival. Therefore, it is important to note that as deforestation continues, we must put back what we’re taking away from the environment . By planting more trees, it will contribute to reforestation ,restoring lost forests, repairing damaged ecosystems and mitigating climate changes thus more water for the future.
