Steem greetings to all cameroonian steemians in the house. It is really my pressure to share with you how farming is done in my place

I will like to once more introduce to you my origin for those who did not have time to read through my introductory post.

My name is Lukong Collins and i hail the NW region of Cameroon precisely from a small village called VEKOVI( meaning those of the forest) in Bui Division. I am the 7th of a family of 7 from late Pa Lukong Cyprain,a renowned Irish potatoes farmer.

When i was growing up i began asking question why people gave birth up to 7 kids without any job in any company to take care of them. Then i was made to understand that the number of kids one had represented the labour force and source of income for the family.

In my village we cultivate a series of crops such as maize, beans, irish potatoes, huckleberry ,marijuana etc. I will proceed to tell you how these crops are cultivated and the tools used.

HOW IT IS DONE
During the dry season most of the villagers go into clearing and tilling the soil. In this period they make ridges following a particular pattern.

Some parts of the grass cleared is gathered and ground made over it and then it is burnt. Crops cultivated in such parts do extremely well.

It is worth noting that famine and produce is available all round the year(potatoes is available at all times in a year while maize is cultivated once a year).

When till is done ,farmers take time off to rest and handle other crops like huckleberry in swampy areas while waiting for rain to come in March.

When rains finally come planting of crops begin. This is done in mix form( mix cropping with atleast three different crops in one farm). This goes on for about 3 weeks and again there is free time.

Some few months after the crops reach a certain level they begin putting ground under the crops to avoid combat soil movements (mulching).

So crops from this point in time are followed up till at one point harvest begins with harvesting of beans then potatoes and finally at the end of the hear corn is harvested and the process continues year in year out.

TOOLS USED
The tools often use are traditional rudimentary farming equipment ranging from HOES, CUTLASSES, PICKAXES, WATER CANS,FERTILIZERS AND PESTICIDES.

That is in summary how farming is done in VEKOVI and others parts of Nso depending on the climatic conditions in each area.

Thank you for reading

I wish to sincerely appreciate @thegreens for such contest . It really made recall all what i use to do i the village as an offspring of a renowned farmer.

It's a good write up. We can't do without farming. Your parents used the children as unskilled labour is really interesting. But this practice of Ankara system of farming should be descauraged at all cost. It endangers the soil in the long run

So you guys cultivate marijuana 😳😳
I wish to know how it is cultivated.
