Greetings to all the steemians around the world. It is yet another opportunity to be here participating in season4 week1 engagement challenge. I have the believe that this season will be a season of fruitfulness to us all. Before I move on with the discussion of the day, I do love to appreciate this community for choosing this topic (cyber bullying).

It is not longer a news that cyber bullying has become a trait in our today's generation. On daily basis, people are being maltreated, abused, and harassed by other individuals online.

This issue of online harassment has always been a fear of almost every body around the world, and it has made a lot of people who in one way or the other have fallen victims, to distance themselves from social networks.

Continue reading as I use the contest questions to explain more about cyber bullying.

What is your understanding on Cyber bullying?

Cyber bullying is an aggressive and intentional act carried out by a group of persons or an individual, using electronic forms of contact repeatedly and over time against a victim who can not defend his or herself.

Side effects of cyber bullying

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Difficulties with academics
  • Violent behaviors
  • High levels of stress
  • Inability to feel safe
  • Feelings of loneliness and isolation
  • Feelings powerlessness and hopelessness

Have you ever been a victim or perpetrator of Cyber bullying?

For so many years, I have being using social networks such as Facebook, WhatsApp, telegram, Twitter, etc. And in the course of using all the social networks listed above, I have interacted with different people from different regions, but to God be the glory, I have never falling a victim or felt bullied by anyone, and It is not something that anyone should ever pray to experience.

Have I ever been a perpetrator of cyber bullying?

I have seen people who have been bullied in cyberspace, and I knew what they actually passed through. I can tell you that cyber bullying is a deadly act, and I personally forbid it. It is an act I will never involve myself. I can't imagine myself making life difficult for another person.

Give an instance (if any) wherein you or someone you know felt bullied in cyberspace, and what spiked such a feeling. (It could be throughout any social platform)

Immediately I saw the above question, the first thing that crossed my mind was the incident that happened to Patience Monshiri. She was my class mate in school secondary, and we graduated together.

Some years after we finished secondary school, she got into romantic relationship with someone I don't know. In the course of their relationship, so many bad and negativities happened, not knowing that those things would later come back to hurt her.

After few months of being in the relationship, they got some issues and she broke up with the guy. Guess what the guy did to her after the broke up. He posted her

NUDE
pictures on her Facebook timeline. And you won't believe how popular she is on Facebook.

Her nude pictures went viral. I so much believe that was her worst experience in life. If only she knew that something of that nature would ever happen to her, she couldn't have even started the relationship.

How did this encounter affect this said person?

Dear sir/Ma, what she passed through as a result of her experience, is nothing to write about. Have you seen where some loose weight within few hours? That was what happened to her. After the incidence, she was emotionally, physically, and psychologically distablized.

She could not eat, she could not attend church programs, and she stopped going to school. In fact, she isolated herself from other people. Even three months after the incident, if you see her, you won't need to be told that she is emotionally disturbed.

Her education was affected, her reputation was destroyed, and she loosed her respect and value before people. As for her Facebook account, it took her a year to still login.

How safe do you feel on Steemit? And have you ever felt bullied at any point in time? (on Steemit)

As a matter of fact, I feel very comfortable and safe on steemit. The reason is, this platform have been in existence for years, and I have neither heard nor seen someone who have been bullied by any other user.

I believe we are all learned, and we all have matured minds. As such, I believe that we will never be involved in such immoral act. The only thing that we do here on steemit is to correct one another on things that are not not right.

Talking about whether I have ever felt bullied by anyone on the platform, the answer is, I have never had such experience and I have not seen anyone with such experience.

What lessons did you gain from such a scenario? And what advice can you give to your audience?

It is true that from each and every of our experience, we drive lessons. From the experience of patience Monsheri, I have derived 3 basic lessons which are:

  • Never you trust anyone with anything that can later be used to hurt you.

  • Before going into any romantic relationship with anyone, try to know how emotionally and psychologically mature the person is.

  • I have also learned that a little mistake can hurt someone for years.

Advice to my audience
I am so glad that all my audience are educated, and they all know what cyber bullying is, and they also know how deadly it can be. Nevertheless, I have few but very important advice to whosoever is reading this article.
  1. Never you be a reason for someone's sadness
  2. Never betray the trust that have been entrusted on you.
  3. Remember that destroying someone's reputation, can never make you a hero, but rather a fool.
  4. Do to others as you want them to do the same to you.
  5. Be your brother's/ sister's keeper.
  6. Correct people when they are wrong, rather than harassing them.

Conclusion

As I earlier mentioned, cyber bullying is a deadly and embarrassing act that no one will like to experience. It can easily make someone to pass through physical and emotional difficulties, and it can easily destroy a reputation that have been built for years.

It will also interest us to know that harassing or embarrassing our fellow humans online, can never benefit or add value us in anyway. As such, I call on each and everyone of us to "SAY NO" to cyber bullying. Let reject it and make our world a better place.

Thank you for reading. I call on @patjewell, @simonnigwe, @yakspeace, @dave-hanny, and @ngoenyi to join me in this contest.
