After going through web 3.0, and its key features (Open, Trust, Permission, and Ubiquitous), internet users enjoy personalized interactions with machines and websites. Before the advent of web 3.0(third generation), we had web 1.0 and 2.0. These three generations are completely different from each other as seen in my previous post. As innovations in technology advance, the next step of generation was introduced to the point of web 3.0, which is the future of the internet. Web 1.0 is a read-only web, Web 2.0 is a read-write web, and Web 3.0 is a read-write-interact web. We have seen how we came about web 3.0, let's look at the advantages and disadvantages.

Have an eye the above post will help you with more understanding of this post. As previously explained, web 3.0 is intelligent, secure, transparent, and more efficient in browsing the internet.

Advantages

  • Transparency:

No matter the blockchain platform, it is possible to track data and inspect the details behind. Blockchain application is developed with open-sources software which permits open design and development. Hence one can follow up on the code, taking off the dependency of the user on the community of developers of the platform.

  • Single Profile Creation:

Here users have the possibility of creating a single profile that can be used over multiple platforms, with the users having complete ownership of their information. With Web 3.0, no organization can have access to users' data or verify that its data is accurate without the user's permission.

  • Enhanced Data Processing:

The implementation of AI and machine learning give web 3.0 the ability to solve intensive problem. AI can filter accurate information from a huge quantity of data in no time for users. The ability of client demand and personalized customer service will be easily conducted with AI.

  • Data Privacy and Control:

With blockchain, data is encrypted for protection purposes. So here user information is protected from any third party as the encrypted data cant be broken at any given point. This aspect of data privacy and control prevents giant companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple from having access to users' information. It gives users full ownership of their information and privacy of their data as these companies cant have access to use it for their interest.

  • Seamless Services:

As user data is stored in multiple backups (decentralized nature of blockchain) gives the assurance that data can always be accessed even in the event of a server failure. At this point, No service or website can be stopped by any authority body or government on account of suspension or service restrictions.

  • Restriction on Platform:

With the presence of blockchain technology in web 3.0, users cannot be restricted from having access to the web 3.0 platform. Here accessibility is open to every user no matter their gender, income status, social status, and geographical region. For this reason, users can do transactions anywhere across the world with no limitations or restrictions.

Disadvantages of Web 3.0

with all the advantages highlighted above, we also have challenges when implementing web 3.0

  • No need for Web 1.0 Websites:

if web 3.0 is fully implemented on the internet, that will mean any website running on web1.0 technology will be of no use. Since the old technology can no longer handle the demands of the current internet users and can not match new technologies. It will mean the web 1.0 websites are out of standard and will lose their competitive edge with the new ones.

  • Not Ready for Widespread Adoption:

As I mentioned above, Web 3.0 is intelligent, secure, transparent, and more efficient. So will need advanced technology to be of full functionality for adoption. A lot is needed when it comes to privacy laws, data use, and users' needs.

  • Requires Advanced Devices:

Putting AI, Machine learning together to run will require advanced computers to be able to give the needed results of web 3.0. so devices to be able to make use of the web 3.0 features and functionalities, will need to upgrade devices to reach more users and globally.

  • Demand for Reputation Management Will Increase:

User reputation is a great challenge in web 3.0 technology. It is a matter of concern as user information is easily available and less anonymous on the blockchain. For example, companies will need to do more to maintain their brands and reputations online by helping their customers, which will be an additional cost to stay ahead of their competitors.

  • Complicated Functionality:

Web 3.0 technology is not easy to understand, making many users reluctant to use it. The addition of AI and machine learning to the previous generation web tools thereby increases the internet usage of the users. For this reason, users will need advanced tools, which everyone will not be able to afford. This will slow down the implementation of web3.0 as the technicality sounds scary to most users.

So far, I think I have tried to simplify web 3.0 technology up to this point. Many of us on the steemit platform have been here for the rewards, without even knowing what is going on in the background. Stay tuned, my next post will be on Why Web 3.0 Is Important for the Future.
