Greeting Steemit Family

On another day, I will share some aspects of my daily activities. Today we will look at some basics of the Linux system. Many of us will be familiar with the window since it is more user-friendly and easy to navigate.

Linux is an operating system. like the Windows which we are familiar with. While Windows is a licensed protected, the reason for activation. Linux is open-source and free. Open-source software is free and does not have any restrictions. so, because Linux is open source, stable, and scalable. It has turned out to be gaining ground, among developers.

The basic concepts to understand in Linux are a kernel, distribution, shell, terminal, File, directory, and path. If you have just the basics of these concepts, you are good to go on a Linux computer.

I don't know what I will be touching, any question bring them in the comment section and we all share ideas,

The kernel helps to manage the hardware and software.
distribution is the system (software) that comes under the Linux umbrella

shell is the interface for tying commands that the kernel will interpret between the software and hardware.
The terminal is not different from the shell, as all of them can do the same function. The differences can be demonstrated in different operating systems.

This is to note as a beginner on a Linux operating system. Linusx has a universal standard when it comes to the filesystem. Linux has the tree format, meaning you have what we call root which is indicated with a forward slash ( /)

You can see the forward slash, which means I'm in the root directory. In Linux, folders are called directories, so let's not be confused. so I can mention any of the two, but I will be mentioning the directory.

Note, that there is no folder called root, root is represented with the forward slash. /

Next, we will look at how to navigate a Linux system. First thing, it is important to always know your current directory. An easy command to use is pwd, which is the abbreviation for "print working directory"

Screenshot 2024-09-03 215259.jpg

We are currently in the root directory. I will navigate to another directory and use the PWD command.

I have gone ahead to created a text file with content using the file editor nano. , \

I will end up, next, we will probably go through navigation. that creates a directory, moving from one directory to the other. file manipulation, that is understanding basic commands.

To conclude, and take home from this post is to make use of the pwd (print working directory)command when on a Linux operating system.

Do not base your understanding on what I'm sharing. There are many ways to catch a fish, check out other methods.

Cheers

This is very educational right now I will like to know if anyone can install the Linux software in their windows laptop and use it to get applications such as Microsoft word and other office applications for free?

Sure you can install a Linux OS on Windows OS using a Virtual Machine. Note that your laptop can run the two operating systems on different partitions. So it is all left to you to decide on your preferences on installing a Linux operating system.

You have to be clear that the Microsoft package is a Windows product Incompatible to the Linux system. I know they should be Linux but not for public use. So, you can use other applications like WPS Office or Google Workspace.

Ok sir thanks for the info
