For the past couple of years, a computer processor is one of the capacities to be looked at. The debate is getting tense between choosing either an AMD or an Intel processor computer. These two manufacturers have different core counts, clock speeds, and other specifications.

I did this research towards getting myself a new laptop, so when you know what you are looking for and what you will be using your computer for. Then it will be easy to decide which processor to go for. Here I will outline some differences between AMD and intel.

A processor is referred to as the central processor, microprocessor, or the central processor unit(CPU) of a computer. As I mentioned above, it is an aspect to put into considerations when purchasing a computer. The processor function handles all instruction between the hardware and software running on the computer. It can be seen as the brain of the computer as it is very good with numbers. Remember computers only understand numbers(1 and 0), which are then interpreted for the end-users.

For example the ability for a computer to open a web browser to display web pages is done by the CPU. How fast your computer will respond to this instruction will depend on the processor.

They ate two types of processors which I mentioned above, AMD and Intel processors. This chip is located in a secure socket on the motherboard covered with a heatsink to cool them since they produce heat.

Advanced Micro Device (AMD)

AMD is a product of a semiconductor company based in Santa Clara, California USA. The company started by supplying x86 processors, which later became a competitor to AM386. It was invented by John Carey, Jerry Sanders Jack Gifford, and the company supplied as a second sources manufacturer

On a rating scale, AMD processors will be positioned between 5-10, which will be cheaper than its counterpart intel at the same rate. AMD processors are efficient, have good iGPU performance, and have comparable CPU performance to the current generation core series. Ryzen processors are clock lower, less aggressive when compared to intel, and often run cooler and longer on battery.

So when looking at getting gaming and a day-to-day used computer, AMD Ryzen powered computer is the way to go. It will be able to carry heavy instruction like video editing, 3D modeling, HD games, etc.

Example: AMD Athlon 64, AMD Ryzen, AMD Threadripper, AMD FX-Series, AMD EPYC, AMD Opteron

Integrated Electronics (Intel)

Intel processor is a product from the Intel Corporation. It is a multinational corporation and technology company based in Santa Clara California (Silicon Valley) USA. Intel Corporation developed the first x86 processor (Intel 8086), which was invented by Robert Noyce on July 18, 1968.

On a rating scale, the Intel processor comes between 4-10 giving that it has a good CPU performance. The Intel processor clocks are higher than an AMD processor at the cost of high power consumption and battery life. So for a short workload, a laptop, the newer intel powered laptop are just the right way to go as battery life will not be much of a concern. As for the Desktop capability, intel has fewer options when compared to AMD processors due to frequent motherboard and chipset changes.

Example: Intel Xeon, Intel Core I series, Intel Core m series

To conclude this article, deciding which processor to go with will depend on your preferences, specific use case, and budget. AMD or Intel, it is important to check out the basics of CPU and how it functions in a computer. However, the best decision is to stick to AMD for low-end to mid-range chips. The Intel processor for high-end, energy-efficient models at a high cost.
