Introduction

Elections or general elections are a means for the people to choose leaders in accordance with the applicable principles and become a means of realizing people's sovereignty. Through general elections, the people are given the freedom to choose leaders who will carry out the oversight function, channel political aspirations, make laws, and formulate revenue and expenditure budgets to finance the implementation of these functions.

What do you think about Elections in your country

The beloved country of Indonesia, which is the largest country that adheres to a democratic system, also holds general elections every five years. Elections held in Indonesia to elect a president and vice president as well as members of the people's representative assembly. General elections held in Indonesia are also to elect leaders in an area, namely governors and regents/mayors. The elections that have been carried out so far have gone through a very long and peaceful process.

Although sometimes there are many problems in the field such as the practice of bribery (money politics) or intimidation and other fraud. It is very important for every citizen to oversee the general election so that it goes well. Voters are also expected to choose representatives according to their conscience. Because the quality of election results is highly dependent on the intelligence of the voters.

What do you think about the electoral system in your country?

Elections held in Indonesia have six important principles, namely direct, general, free, confidential, honest and fair which are commonly called "LUBER JURDIL". Voters are required to vote directly and may not be represented by others. Every Indonesian citizen who is 17 years old has the right to vote in elections. Voters are also free to choose anyone according to their conscience without coercion and are confidential. In the history of elections that have been held in Indonesia, there are 2 systems that have been implemented, namely closed proportional and open proportional.

How is it done in your country?

For a closed proportional system for the election of presidential and vice presidential candidates, voters may choose the candidates directly. However, for the election of members of the legislature, even if voters vote for one of the candidates, that vote will be the vote of the political party that carries the candidate concerned. In an open proportional system, voters can directly choose the candidate who will represent them. An open proportional system is more democratic because voters can find out who will represent them later.

Is it transparent and fair in your country

During the general elections that took place in my country, they were very transparent and fair. Although it must be admitted that there were many problems before, during and after the election. But this is very reasonable given the large number of voters and election venues that must be monitored. In order to create clean, transparent and fair general elections, public understanding is needed. That way the community must have an important role in determining the future of the country.

Assume there's no fairness and effectiveness as far as elections are concerned, what solutions can you propose to ensure its being carried out the right way

However, if there is fraud and injustice in the election, then the electoral system must be improved. Management must also be improved such as organizers, maintaining the authenticity of voter votes, as well as improving law enforcement against various forms of fraud that occur during the process up to post-election. Election organizers must follow the rule of law to protect the rights of voters in determining their right to vote. Security and justice must be prioritized to achieve honest, fair and dignified elections.

I also invite friends @graceleon, @pelon53, @msharif, @lavanyalakshman, @patjewell, @irawandedy, @ripon0630, @suboohi, @reinamia, and others to participate in this contest.

"LUBER JURDIL"

Thank you for sharing and inviting me.
Gosh I have learned such a lot from what you have written.
There is a difference of voting in your county and mine. For one, 18 is the age for voting in South Africa.
Hopefully I will get to share a post.
Good luck with the contest!

In our country, the minimum limit can be 17 years old, I'm waiting for your post @patjewell and thank you for your support

Your country has a good election system and makes it very easy for the people. Fairness is key to success; Hopefully, for the next Elections will be more fair and good, so that all people can easily take part in the elections.

Wow I learnt something new today, The LUBER JURDIL the 6 principles of election in Indonesia, it's true that we expect tension before and after elections, it's really not easy, but I noticed to some extent democracy is quite respected in your country, may it really continue so forever and let the processes get better

Wow i never knew people at the age of 17 could vote in any part of the world. But i am just finding that out now from your article that people in your country at that age can vote. Here my country, it allowed for people from 18 and above

You have written so well. It's really a thing of beauty to know that people of age 17 can vote In your country. Our country is age 18. You also highlighted that elections are every 5 years. It is really interesting to know that your country has a free and fair elections except in some instances of bribery and fraud. You have made good points. I wish you success in the challenge. Goodbye for now my dear friend #steem-on
