North West Administration Destroys Fake, Expired Drugs Worth Millions

A Task Force created by the Bamenda II administration led by the Divisional Officer, D.O Nicolas Ngongho Manchang has seized and destroyed fake and expired drugs worth about FCFA 10million.

The drugs were burnt last Friday August 12, 2022 around the premise of the D.O's office in Bamenda.

During the Destruction exercise, the D. O said,

"fake and expired drugs have inundated our markets. These drugs are very dangerous especially tramadol which has destroyed many of our youths. We went out recently and empounded a huge consignment which we are destroying today. This fight will continue untill these unwanted products are taken out."

Also present during the destruction exercise was the District Medical Officer (DMO) for Bamenda II, Dr. Nsoh Gilbert who sent out the following words of advice to the population,

"expired and fake drugs can destroy the liver and kidneys thereby leading to kidney failure. The number of persons suffering from the health challenges I just mentioned has increased because of the consumption of these products. Go to legalized health institutions when you fall sick and if prescribed medication, please go to accredited pharmacies for your drugs. Avoid auto - medication," he said.

He also invited health facilities to make sure all their medicines are gotten from the North West Regional Fund For Health Promotion in Bamenda.

Those who buy drugs from the streets have blamed it on hardship as explained by Mirabel Ata ,

"we are going through a lot of difficulties reason why we go for cheap things. At times the pharmacies sell very expensive reason why we are forced to go where our income permits. At times the drugs are not at the recognized pharmacies causing us to go to the streets. "

While hoping that the fight against fake and expired drugs bear some fruits, the population has also been invited to distant self from the practice of auto - medication.
