The Biodiversity Challenge | Day2: A Time In Nature: 23/05/2021

Hello fellow steemians and fellow contestants. I hope all is well. I'll wanna thank @thegreens again for organizing this contest. It helps me think critically as it is very much related to my field of study, Environmental Engineering.

I'm going to be talking on question 2: How biodiversity around me is being destroyed and what u can do to fix it

First of all, biodiversity is defined as The variety of species of plants and animals within a region. In as much as the species are plenty, I'm not going to talk about each but about their class of belonging

So I'll draw a table showing the various species, their habits and how they are affected by nature of anthropogenic activities.

Species NameHabitatHow it's affected
PlantsLandAffected by bush burning, affected by contaminated soil due to run of from farms in which pesticides, herbicides, etc have been used
---
Aquatic lifeWaterThey are affected by runoffs from farms which chemicals have been used on. Also affected by waste water from industries and homes, and dissolved gases in the atmosphere. Also affected by waste from households dumped into water and also garbage drained from the market during rainfall
---
ManLandAffected by Carbon monoxide (CO) from vehicles, Carbon dioxide (CO2) from industries. All the above above effects of plants and aquatic life affect man. If the soil is contamination, we harvest food from there and eat and inturn, we have diseases. Same as the water. We are also affected by open landfills which bring bad smells and mosquitoes which can cause diseases.

So above are the most common biodiversity around me. The points below will tell us what I can do to protect these specie👇👇

How the Above Biodiversity can be protected

  1. Modern drainage patterns can be constructed to avoid the runoff of waste water into water bodies and pipelines.

  1. Modern trash disposal techniques such as: thermal waste treatment, recycling, reuse and energy recovery should be employed. The first thing we have to do in this country in order to get a clean environment is to classify our trash cans so we can have biodegradables, non biodegradables, hazardous, electronics and so on in each of their own trash cans

  1. Cars that have the ability to convert Carbon monoxide into Carbon dioxide should be rather be used.

I couldn't say more than this because the stuff is full in my head.
Thanks for reading
PEACE✌️

I love this topic. I have for a long time been wondering what is are the best possible to manage waste in Cameroon.

Thank you for elaborating and telling me more

These are some really educational concepts and they are all good and correct but it would have been nice if you described how that which is around you is being destroyed as well as simple things you can do to fix it.
For instance, i could sort my waste, compost, stop using single use plastics, etc. These are simple things you can do as opposed talking about the automobile industry.
Thanks for this entry and please remember to engage in some simple actions to help fix the problem.
