Green Deeds: I pledge to Plant trees on Risk Zones in Bamenda.

Hello my beautiful ladies and handsome men on steemit, accept warm greetings from up contry (Bamenda), North West Région of Cameroon. It’s always a pleasure to participate on contest as such. I salut all my environmentalist especially my sister and role model.

Recently, in Cameroon especially the North West Region, we have been witnessing changes in our climatic conditions. This has placed farmers at a confused state as they do not actually know when to plant. At times during the heart of the rainy season, temperatures are high, and some days places are extremely cold. At times I even wonder if actually I’m in the North West which usually has a cold climatic conditions during the rainy season than compared to other regions of Cameroon.

Moreover , there are some areas in Bamenda which are considered as risk zones. The government and non governmental organisations have carried out assessments of such areas, and advice inhabitants to evacuate such areas. However, despite all these pleas that inhabitants should evacuate, it felt on deaf ears. They often said that they were born in that area, and for over 15 years nothing has happened. I do not know if it’s ignorance or what🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ .

Notwithstanding, myself and my organization has decided to plant over 4000 trees within Sisia quarter which is one of those highly risk zones in Bamenda. we hope to do this for over a month with assistance from the quarter head and some youths within the community .

We have a nursery where we nursed the seeds, until when they are ready, we have to carry them to the community to be planted.

Types of tress to be planted
Acacia to the left, vocanga( Infront greener) and calliandra to the right as seen on the pictures above.

Importance of these trees
-Fencing
-Water boasters.
-Animal forage.
-Soil improvement nitrogen.
-Protection of landslide and flooding with their roots.

So we believed that the roots of the trees will help a lot to reduce landslide within the community.
