Contest Winners “Are Dowries Dehumanising?”
Steem greetings all the way from the motherland-Cameroon and welcome to my blog as I announce winners of the contest.
The aim of the contest was to raise awareness about the social ills perpetrated within different cultures and communities which promotes gender based violence.
In some families, lots of women suffer violence because of the dowry paid by the groom. The groom then quantify the woman as his commodity because of the dowry paid.
Some families also used the dowry as a means of economic exploitation to extort money from the groom and other material things. It is high time we discouraged such acts promoting inequality in our communities through awareness raising.
Each participant demonstrated great knowledge about the subject matter, indicating their mastery of the topic. All participants responded in a simple language that was easy to read and understand.
A total of 9 entries were recorded from India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Nigeria. The following are the entries recorded and reviewed.
